What tire size?

Post by SolarYNeon » Sat Jul 29, 2006 9:44 pm

What tire size should I get for 17" rims that wont rub, or have any super effect on spedo accuracy?

I have 40s on my 17s, but they are kind of rough. I am gonna get some 45s in a few months.

Here....use the speed calc....

205/45 and 215/40 have pretty much the same sidewall height. technically the 215/40 has slightly more sidewall. the 215/40/17 is a near dead on replacement size for stock 185/60/15 tires.

personally i would get 215/40/17's

215/40-17 = 23.8" overall diameter
205/45-17 = 24.3"

both will fit

then you have this guys

I have 205/40/17 on mine....I had it lowered 2.5" w/ dropzones and never had any rubbing issues.

the height of the car is not the issue its the struts but yeah these guyss are on target with the tire sizes if you dont want to run spacers or anything? or you could swap to srt/pt struts they are 1 inch higher the perches that is!

I think you should be fine... the major issue with rubbing is the spring perches when it comes to larger rims on our cars, not fenders. Although I speak not from experience for I do not like larger rims on my cars - I prefer lighter weight of smaller rims.

So I got my wheels installed and what not. I bought 215/40 size tires. Problem is, If im going down the road at highway speeds and hit a bump, it hits my perches (i guess thats what you call em)the things that look like a top of a mushroom. I dont have this problem under like 60 mph. How would I fix this. I feel kinda stupid like I bought the wrong tires or something :(.

Would spacers fix this? or am I just SOL? :/

Cheapest way is the best ;)

Even if I could beat away those suckers with a hammer or something :D

I think 5mm spacers is the cure. Wait for someone with experience in this area first - but I am sure of it.

I am running 215/40 in a 17" wheel and have NEVER had my tires rub my perches or anything else for that matter, no matter what I have done, bumps on hwy, speed bumps, nothin...What type of tire are you running and what does the manufacturer say the overall diameter is?

I bought 4 Khumo Ecsta 771s 215/40. 83H is the load/speed rating. Haha maybe I goofed up there... :-/

I'm running them on SRT wheels.

I'd say its the perches because i've got about a finger of clearence when I put my finger in there. That's what I'm lead to believe. Everywhere else the tire has plenty of clearance.

I was just gonna say, that if you can put your fingers between the wheel and the perch while stopped, the chances of it expanding that much and rubbing on the road is slim to none. That being said, I still have to rubbing on a 7" wheel with 215/40R17 Nexxen Tyres...
