AEM CAI problems

Post by BlackMagic » Tue Aug 01, 2006 5:55 pm

Does anyone have a page that shows the install of the AEM Cold air intake on a 2003 neon 2.0 SOHC? I'm running into some problems

The "breather hose", the instructions i got with it were all messed up. Where would the breather hose go from the intake to where? It dosent seem to be long enough to go anywhere on the valve cover

the vaccuum line that attaches to the intake should run straight to the right side of the valve cover. Its been a long ass time since i installed my CAI, but if i remember correctly, the new hose simple pops onto the stock line in place of the smaller stock one, and then attached to the bung on the intake tube. the hose should be fairly long. heres a pic of my engine bay from awhile back, hope it helps.

And if that doesn't work, plug it and put an air filter (few bucks at pep boys) on the valve cover

look at that picture it looks as if his AEM CAI has the same hose, its short and connected to the stock hose / another hose... the only reason im complaining is because the directions told me to replace the old hose, so i was sitting there scratching away at my head wondering how a 10 inch hose goes all the way to the back of the damn valve cover. Plus the directions also told me to Attach a connector hose on each end of the long tube and short tube, and the quantity of hose connectors said 3 lol. Thoes were the wost directions ever wrote.

Well I'm not really worried about the hose, Im just going to get a longer blue hose and cut it perfect, hook it up and forget about it, right now its connected to the stock hose which dosent bother me either. I just found it funny how the directions were way off :-D At first I thought maybe AEM was right and I was an idiot.

I'm looking at "Breather Filters", do they normally go to the back of the valve cover? Does it actually help to get a filter for it or does it make no difference?

Well, you want some sort of filter over it. You do not want it left open otherwise dirt and bugs and such is getting into your valve area.

The filters work well, you won't notice any power gains or anything, but it'll give you an uncluttered view under the hood if you don't have a vacuum line running from behind the valvecover (where the breather filter would go if you went that route) up to the CAI.

Of course you could get the colored vacuum line and spiff it up a bit too... your choice.

Just put in the breather filter and plugged the hole, I don't like it much so I'm going back to getting the longer hose lol

I'm not trying to say it dosent serve a purpose, I'm saying I'd rather not just have a filter on it I want to reconnect it to the intake.

If you reconnect it to the intake, you realize you still have a filter on it, right? I'm just messin with ya, man. Personal preference and all.

The hose that came w/ mine wasnt long enough either, so I got one of those small filters for the intake and one for the VC. I personally like how they look better than the hose.

All this small hose talk is crazy.....The hose comming off your valve cover shouldnt be a hose it should be a plastic tube. You connect the tube you get in the kit with the plastic one comming off your valve cover
