***NEW POSSIBLE SAFETY RECALL***

Post by Paralyzer » Wed Aug 02, 2006 11:41 pm

This was released in today's newspaper and I have already let Diablo know about it and had approval to post this. I thought you guys should know this since there have already been problems on here revolving around this topic. This is not an Official Recall but is under investigation.

Probe looks at Dodge Neons
DaimlerChrysler AG's Dodge Neon compact cars are the subject of a new U.S. safety probe because headlights can go out and smoke can appear aroundthe steering column.
The National Highway traffic Safety Administration's investigation covers 248,095 vehicles from the 2002 and 2003 model years, the agency said Tuesday on its Web site. The probe comes after 10 reports of lights going out, sometimes accompanied by smoke cominf from the steering column. NHTSA'sprobe summary said the problem can be fixed by replacing wiring and switches.

^ First thing on the page...

I wouldn't go in just yet, if it does make it to an actual saftey recall status you should get a notification in the mail about it to make an appointment to have it fixed.

^Are we talking about the housing melting? Or the bulb sockets buring up? Because I have an 01 with 03 headlights so I wont be getting a notification, but wondering if I'm gonna be effected.

Common problem, the pigtail that goes into the multifunction switch melts down and ignites....

typical car company to ignore it and not spend the money to fix something that could save our cars and lives. I guess making a few extra bucks at the expense of the consumer is good for business. Sometimes I hate big corporations... sometimes.

Yeah, I wouldn't exactly be sitting comfortable just because you have an 01 or an 05 or something that's not 2002-03. They're all the same harness for the mfs.

Okay. Well then thankfully that hasn't happened to me. Nothing major like that has ever happened to my neon, she's got 140k miles on her and running better then when I first got her.

If we bought our neons used would we still get recall information in the mail?

Probably only if you sent in their card that might be somewhere in the owners manual or one of the cards in the owners manual case, telling DCx to update the owner info that they have on record.
