Step Up in Wheel Size?

Post by stepn67 » Fri Aug 04, 2006 5:23 pm

Hey I'm new to the Neon thing, just got an '02 and need to start doing some things to make it a little more cosmetically appealing.
It's got the stock 14 inch steel wheels, so thats my first step. What's the next step up in tire/wheel combo to give it a little beefier stance, wheel size, diameter, offset?

You could go with the stock, 16 inch R/T wheels and throw Falken Ziex 12, 205/45/R16 tires on. That would improve handling, but the Neons are known for their 4x4 stance already, so you may consider lowering the car slightly with stock SRT-4 springs (40 bucks) or possibly first generation Neon springs.
More on the tire stuff though, read through this and see if it helps you at all:

I think 35mm offset, not sure...

Next step up is 15. Stock size is 185/65/15, but you can do:
195/60/15
205/55/15 <- best

Than 16's. The 2002 R/T had 16's, and they run stock on 195/60/16, but can do:
205/55/16
215/50/16 <-best

On 17's, like the SRT-4, you get 215/50/17, but you need to run 215/45/17's for them to not have rubbing issues on the spring perches.

I hope that helps.

As for the 4x4 stance, you need to lower it. Anywhere from .5" (on SRT springs) to ~1.75" on 1st gen RT/ACR Springs. I have 1st gen RT springs on mine, and after a scare of part numbers, I lowered it and love the look as well as the handling. So... lower it for a BETTER looking stance. Meaner looking stance with tires, I like the 205/55/15's. There are several rims for sale right now on this board and on NEONS.ORG
