Synthetic oil.....to late..???

Post by Silver2gn4me » Thu Dec 09, 2004 10:05 pm

I am coming up on my first oil change as a new owner on my used 2000 ES. I ran Mobil 1 in my first 2gen and want to run it in this one. This one has ~53,000 miles. Is it too late to start using it???

you can start using synthetic oil any time you want. the problem isnt the oil, its the fact that any build up thats holding your leaks back will be freed and any oil leaks you have will show. 53k is nothing.

You'll have no problems at all. My grandfathers truck had 100+k miles before the first time i filled it with synthetic.

With only 53k I doubt you have any leaks. My car has 69k and the only leak I have is my drain plug. This is also b/c the stock one was striped out and the oversize one doesn't seal right.

Hate to bring this topic back, but instead of starting another topic... Well once you go Synthetic can you go back to regular oil?? If of course you choose to is it bad? :?: :?:

Of course you can. You can do anything. :) I, myself, would definitely NOT recommend it. My first car was a '90 Pontiac Sunbird that I had in 1996 with 120,000 miles on it and when I bought it I started running Mobil 1 in it... I was feeling cheap when I changed the oil once and bought conventional oil, non-synthetic, and man did that engine start knocking and rapping like a mofo. I'm sure with knocking comes some engine damage, but I dunno. This has only happened to me once and I got rid of the car about 2000 miles after I did the oil change... So, to sum it up, I'd say don't go back.
