Mag Intake on an ATX

Post by SolarYNeon » Sun Aug 20, 2006 1:12 pm

Just before I buy all the parts I want to double check that I will be able to basically just bolt up the mag intake on an ATX (and do the wiring yes) without getting a new TB or anything like that.

I can see why not. I would try to get a magnum head while your at it to and that should give you a nice little gain in power. Hint hint atx->mtx swap.

get the 3.94 transaxle. I still get 31.5 MPG with mine @ 3,500 rpm in 5th (about 75mph).

the magnum intake manifold bolts right up to any sohc head. you will need a replacment bellows tube because the intake to the intake ( :) ) is at a different angle then non-mag mani's

How do you manage to get 31mpg? I drive like 80% highway with the cruise set at 75 and i can only manage 28mpg or so...guess your just lucky as hell!

As for which tranny, 3.94 FTW!

well, stock i got 28 mpg... mods increased it to 31.5 highway and 25 city.

intake got +1 mpg, cam got +1 mpg, LTH got +1.5 mpg. i was very surprised to see this happen

right after the cam install i got like 10 mpg  but after the computer "learned" the new flow it adjusted and went back up.

For the bellows tube, can I just get some piping and do it myself, or do I absolutely have to purchase the stock mag bellows tube?

the bellows tube is different. you could bend your own, buy one, or try and bend/manipulate a non mag bellows tube to fit.

highway ive pulled 36mpg with 3 people in the car, but i also have alot of 'breathing' mods and 15" wheels (stock snowflakes were used, not my track 15's :))

if you can, locate a PT tranny... it has the 3.94 with the .72 5th gear (the rt/acr tranny has .82 5th).... the .72 allows the car to still have great torque throughout gears 1-4 but 5th gear has the theoretical gearing of the 3.55 with .82 5th so you still get good highway mileage

My car averages 33.3- MPG, I have 15" K1s, iceman, stock magnum exhaust and intake manifold, and an UDP. And of course, a 5spd. My best mileage was about 42mpg, Which I am not sure how I got, other than buring Nevada gas.

Wait... wha? What kind of cam? I've always wanted to just throw the Magnum cam in mine to see what it would do, but I didn't know the consequences.

Thats why i rarely "put my foot in the tank" :D . I do enjoy the better mpg when im not hard on the throttle tho.
