Can we clean up the how-to section by getting rid of ALL the "moved" threads a little sooner.....like now.

The problem lies in the moderator who moved them. When we move threads, there's an option of leaving a 'shadow' topic where it was originally posted so that people can find where their topic went. I very rarely do this because of the mess it leaves behind. I don't think it's a timeframe in which they stick around - I think they slowly move down as people make more new topics and post replies... We'll probably see them for a while since there's no option of deleting the 'shadows'. :(

I was told to leave shadows every time I move a topic, and they will eventually disappear.... :?

Just uncheck this box when you move threads, Chris.

Oh... *shrug*

Don't know why... I usually don't. Then again, it depends on the importance of the thread, I guess.

i don't leave shadows when i move threads...no point to...if your moving it...it's usually because it's in a wrong place or no longer needed...so by moving it your essentually doing nothing...cuz it's still there

Yes, I said to leave shadows generally so people can see that their thread has been moved instead of asking "where did my thread go, why was it deleted..." When I move threads I use it on a case by case situation. If something is pretty old I won't bother since no one will notice it. If the thread is very active or fairly new I'll leave the topic so people can see that it has been moved.

Typically the shadow topics seem to disappear over time but since they haven't I'll go in and clean them up.

Update:

Removed them.

Thank you...
As you stated, they were active and new topics, thats why I left a shadow but they just did not seem to go away....
Thanks again...
