Super Glued Spark Plug Wires

Post by 05RedSXT » Tue Sep 05, 2006 3:31 pm

A little background to start.......

Well in my infinate wisdom, I took some advice and changed my spark plugs to correct a "ruff" idle. I went to the parts store and purchased Champion Platinum plugs for the SXT.

The plug wires were difficult to say the least to get off. The car only has 12,000 miles on it and the plug wires have never been off from the factory. In pulling the last one off, I pulled the last 3/4" of the plug wire off and let me tell you, it was not easy to get the small piece of plug wire off the plug and then out of the head sleeve. It still had the connector in the end so I figured it would be OK. Car ran like crap. Swapped in the old plugs thinking it might be the car not liking the platnium plugs. Not! Well of course nobody had new plug wires.

I had to drive the car several times this weekend and yesterday the engine light came on. I called the Dodge dealer today (parts closed yesterday) and I went down and picked up a set of wires and installed the new one to replace the damaged one and the car runs normally now. However and in life there is always a however, the engine light is still on.

Guess I should have left well enough alone.

And now for my question......

Is there a way to clear the engine light w/o having to go to the dealer?

Thanks in advance.
Thanks,

Just a guess, try unplugging the battery for 10 minutes, then put it back in. That clears all codes im pretty sure.

If that doesn't help and the CEL is still on, bring it to autozone or something and they have a code scanner and they can figure out what the problem is. Hope its nothing to severe.

best of luck

unplug the negative battery terminal for 5 minutes and replug it in. You can also check to see what code it is by putting the key in your car and following this sequence on off on off on . the code or codes will appear in to odometer window. Then with the code you can search this website or neons.org for it's meaning or ask someone.

Try driving it for a while. I had a Multiple Cylinder Misfire code once due to the connection on the side of the coil pack being loose. Once it was corrected, it went away within a few days. I could have sworn I read somewhere something about if the car is started and ran error free for a certain number of starts, the codes go away. I'm not sure if that applies to all codes, or if I'm dreaming this shit up.

no,no,no....
To clear the codes, disconnect the battery and remove the fuel pump relay. Let it sit for roughly 30minutes and you should have only one code after that....the battery disconnected code.
If you are like me, I just do the above and reconnect the following morning before going to work, the only side effect is reseting the aftermarket radio...time/staions/etc...

I would stick to copper spark plugs too, just as a throw in.
