$50 paint job anyone?

Not sure if anyone has followed the new Rustoleum trend but I thought I'd help spread the word. Make sure you read at least the first 4 pages on the Moparts thread. Check out the guys Charger.

Well the beauty about this method is you dont need a special shop to keep out dust. If you really wanted you could do it right in the street a coat at a time. Thing is, that black car is definitley clear coated and there isn't clear rustoleum.

I wouldn’t clear coat it. There have been experiments with the Rustoleum clear, they do make it, and the usual paint, buff and polish. After reading hundreds of pages they came to the conclusion that there is no difference between the two looks anyways. One of the benefits of not having a clear coat too is if you should get a nick or scratch in the paint it can be easily buffed out or coated over again and no one would be the wiser. Clear makes it difficult, and like I said there’s no difference between a polished job and a clear coat job. The Orange Charger has been hit with high speed rocks and all it did to the paint was leave a ring of dust where the rock had hit. He just wiped the dust off. The charger has been banged into, had oil filters dropped on it and the paint was perfect. Try that with a $5,000 BC/CC. I for one would never want a BC/CC in that price range cuz I’d be too paranoid and nervous to drive it. I used to drive my Dad’s 68 Chevelle with a $10,000 paint job and it was nerve wracking. One more point for you guys who try this don’t expect a show quality look unless you put in the research and work. I’ve seen pictures of half assed jobs and they look like dung. The quality jobs you see the peeps took their time with the body work. I’m going to take a couple of months out to do mine. In the end it’ll be worth it. I get a kick out of the finished jobs and the guys who have done it when they tell everyone how it was done. One guy was called a liar. How funny.
No clear coat here all buff and polished. You gotta take your time though.

YEAH you should!! And go work on your SRT stuff  Just kidding man.

Anyhow...that stuff looks good...but I think the key thing here is not doing it half a$$ed. And let's face it...there are alot of people that do things that way NOT even trying to.

That Looks AWESOME! I'm clearing out space in my garage today!
Time to paint up the new project/beater and I sure as hell don't want to spend more than $100 or so to so it, this is perfect! Two questions first (and forgive if these have been posted somewhere before but I'm here now and it's on topic so...)

1) What would be the best solvent or cleaner to use to prep the surface first?

2) The hood and roof have flaking, do I sand it all smooth first then paint or just paint right over it (thinking it will seal it).

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.

1) 100% Mineral spirits
2) You definitely want to sand it smooth, no doubt

1) I've heard from many Honda guys who have done this and it is flexible. One guy has had it on his car for a year and no chipping, flaking or scratching.
