 This is an old thread, back when I had my old ACR. I use all royal purple products in my srt-4. Costs a fortune, but its an investment.

Just cause these posts are fun

Yes XW stand for winter and they are tested at a certain temp

0W is tested at -35F
5W is tested at -30F
10W is tested at -25F
15W is tested at -20F
20W is tested at -15F

So you can get a 0W-30(German made Castrol Syntec) that is actually thicker at 0F than most 5W-30s but down around -20F the 0W-30 will not have thickened up as much remaining thinner at that time.

So as far as 5W-20 or 5W-30 well they are closer than you think.
As measured in Centistokes
SAE 20 is 6-8 Cst -- normally in the 8+ range
SAE 30 is 9-12 Cst -- normally in the 9-10 range
SAE 40 is 13-16 Cst -- normally in the 14 range

So most 20's in use today are all nearly a 30 and most 30's are almost a 20. 40 is a big change.

If you run synthetic and the price is the same get a 0W-XX for added startup protection and if you run conventional any 5W-20 or 30 depending on year will be just fine.

As far as a good filter for the price it is just hard to beat a Motorcraft. If you do not mind the filter hanging down just a tad the FL-300 is fantastic. Just over 5 Qts. capacity with it. If you happen to find an FL842 then it will not hang down. But at Walmart it is 3.28 and 3.58 at AAP. Like a Pure One without the cost.
