exhaust question!

Post by kc2005ptgt » Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:10 pm

I am going with 2.5" piping from dynomax. Anywho, I might have my muffler guy hook it up with a 2.5" straight pipe from the cat to the first bend, then weld in a 2.5" 90* bend (from trubendz, or some place - has to be mandrel bent) and then attach the 2 other sections from Summit (see dawms post on cheap 2.5 exhaust route by dynomax) from the bends to the exhaust.

My questions:

I would assume that from header it starts out as 2.25 out of the cat/flex, yes?

If I go to 2.5" back to stock muffler, woud that create any bottle necks, bad backpressure, etc?

I also plan on upgrading to a comp 400 cam in the near future and doing a port an polish when I can afford down time.

Isn't 2.5 big for a N/A car? (just wondering not bashing)

Sounds like a plan to me, anything stock is restrictive ;)

- Yes, all the current piping is 2.25"...out of the cat included.

-I would guess that using 2.5" cat back, but still using the stock ACR muffler would work just fine, but if I was doing it, I would upgrade to a higher flowing muffler. The point of doing the piping is for better flow....I'd actually start with the muffler before I messed with the piping. Just my 2 cents though. :)

The Super Turbo Muffler from summitracing.com or jegs.com is extremely cheap, plus it has the same dual tip layout as the stock ACR and R/T muffler and it's only about $50 plus shipping...I'd recommend getting one of those in 2.5" and having the shop install some tips or get some tips from a SRT-4 rear section...

Thanks phenomeneon21... I saved that link, and tomorrow I will be getting the first part of my exhaust installed. I am getting 2.5" from the cat to the first 90* bend and the cutout installed for $30 tomorrow... gonna be nice to return to performance mods instead of all these dang cosmetic mods!

After that I will be getting:
2gn: 1st rear exhaust 33.39

and then:
2gn: 2nd rear exhaust 42.69

and then:
90 Degree Bend 21.99

and finally:
Muffler 51.95

Anyway, I see now way that I will spend more than $200 for a full 2.5" exhaust system. Eventually, I am upgrading to a longtube header.
