just a thought

Post by 03NEON » Thu Sep 21, 2006 9:33 pm

I want to throw this out and see if it would work or not. I was talking with a guy at work that was working on a S4 and he was telling me that his turbo's bov ran the excessboost through a line back to the intake. That made the turbo silent and gave it more boost at least my thought and I wanted to know could you run the excess boost from our turbos the same way . I want to do this because i would think it would be more power and would be silent there for an ultimite sleeper lol wont hear it coming till its too late

I think he means he ran it back to his intake box. That's what I'd do if I ran a stock looking setup, run the wastegate back to the stock airbox. That would be ultra sleeper, stock airbox and all that shit.

No, in a turbo setup it is important to have a BOV. Most companies design the bov to vent back to air box because they use MAF sensors. These sensors can go hay-wire if the air it originaly thought was there, is not there any more. People obviously find ways around that, for the noise and/or performance of an aftermarket BOV.

Since our cars run a MAP sensor, it is not necessary to back plumb the BOV.

It is important to have because it releases excess pressure. This keeps the air from hitting the face of the throttle body, and coming to a dead stop. This is usually what causes the turbo to back spin. Just imagine how hard it is for a turbo to go from 10,000 or more rpms one direction, and then just stop. Bad stuff!

Oh the Adui's and VW's the computer is expecting that extra boost to be there for the fuel trims to be correct, with an intake the car has a "blow off" sound to it.

There is no aduibale sound because of the intake setup.

No, VAG computers are expecting the extra air from the DV, which is why it is rerouted to the intake. But there has to be some way to bleed the extra boost off or you WILL start blowing shit up. Mainly IC pipes. Which, if you didn't know, is very bad.
Justin- I have nothing but smart ass remarks to add.

Alot of stock turbo cars have these. They are not blow off valves, they are reserculating valves and they are alot more effecient. Alot of people take them off for the cool sound though.

hang on i take back my previous statement, i dont know what i was thinking but it made sense to me at the time  i must have been tired! haha guess i forgot that there's a small thing called a throttle body keeping the excess boost stuck in the intake tract. woopsie

The mitsu eclipse turbo's run a setup like that also because of the MAF sensor. All in all its actually benificial to do that because it also helps spool up when going back into boost...
