STARTER Motor?
STARTER Motor?
My starter is about to go out on the Neon and I was wondering if anyone knows if a starter from a 1st gen SOHC would fit in mine. There are a bunch of them on ebay for cheap. THe one for my 2001 Neon is over 200$ and I dont feel like spending so much.
I noticed an SRT starter out there too but I doubt that it would fit at all.
From what i understand these are the part numbers.
2.0.L 4793493
2.0L HO 5033133AA
1.6L 5293135AA
Are these ^ #s right?
Can someone give me prices.

REMOVAL - 2.0L AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the air cleaner box, refer to the air cleaner box removal/installation in this section.
Remove the 2 upper bracket bolts for the intake support (INTAKE SUPPORT BRACKET).
Raise vehicle and support.
Remove the oil pan support bracket (OIL PAN BRACKET).
Remove the intake support bracket (INTAKE SUPPORT BRACKET LOWER BOLTS).
Disconnect the battery cable and solenoid connection from the starter.
Remove the starter bolts.
Remove starter.
One thing that was a pain on my car is how to get the starter out! I basically did the above, but I removed the positive wiring and the black bracket from the starter. Then I fought but fed the starter out the top once the wiring and bold were removed.
On a non-mag motor, I dont know how much room you have down below but with a mag motor the plenum is to big to feed the starter out the bottom....

Uh, no. That IS correct.blue demon02 wrote:That is not correct. They infact will work. The blocks are the same also you can swap any year from 96-02.Mopar00Neon wrote:No, a 1st gen starter will not work.
The starter motor is physically the same, but the solinoid is mounted differently. Why do you think 1st gen people want to buy 2nd gen starters when they swap magnum intake manifolds on and such?
95-96 uses one starter*
97-99 uses one starter*
00-05 use another
SRT, Im not sure on.
*Solinoid connectors were different for these years.

Have you had your battery load tested? Sometimes a battery will read 12+ volts when its just sitting, but itll drop to next to nothing the second a load is put on it. Common with bad/dead cells.neon_ert3 wrote:ok, i just dropped in 2 starters and neither of them did anything. could there be something else wrong? my battery is puttin out 12+ volts, all my grounds are good. idk what else to do!

for me when i turn the key i get this weird whine noise and my fuse box makes a lil click noise once. then earlyer i got a repeated tick tick tick tick which was very fast, it would keep doing this as long as i had the jey turned to the on position as to start it.

so you installed a push botton start? how dose that work dose it just by pass everything? what about the skim moduale do u just have to have ur key in the ignition in the on position? i might do the same install a push botton start and a battery kill switch becuase i can figure this out either.

i just hooked the brown wire to one side of a push switch and the other to the battery.speedyrb29 wrote:so you installed a push botton start? how dose that work dose it just by pass everything? what about the skim moduale do u just have to have ur key in the ignition in the on position? i might do the same install a push botton start and a battery kill switch becuase i can figure this out either.
