Car shut off twice in two weeks while driving

Post by sullygully » Sun Sep 24, 2006 11:03 pm

Alright, I have some weird shiat happening here.

First, last week i was driving, and all of a sudden i lost all power, car shut off. as i was coasting down the highway to pull over, the power comes back on again after about 10 seconds. Cranked the car, started no problem.

Then just today, i flashed my hi's at a car to let him know he can turn before me, and i lost all power again, for 2 seconds. Power came back on, and i started it up.

Ya so...... WTF??

P.S. About a two months ago i get into my car, and had no power when trying to start the car, but the dash lights were flickering, dome light, and parking lights as well. Then i turned my lights on, and everything went to normal, had power, and started the car no problem.

FTLOG, help

^^ I second that.

I had a similar issue before I changed the battery. It never happened while driving but after the car sat for a day, it would have a problem turning over. New battery: no problem.

*Edit: how old is your battery?

Check the power wire down to the starter, then wihle your down there see if the fusable link in the black wire(i think) is blown or about to blow..

Not to sound like a yes man.... but yes, it sounds like loose battery cables.

The battery is only three months old, plus if it were a dying battery it would do this all the time.

Ill check everything else suggested, though. Thanks

And yes, the loose cable is a likely culprit too. When I changed my battery, I actually dropped, and subsequently lost, the nut that secured the bolt (doh!). For a while I went with a tad smaller nut (which also stripped the bolt), but during that time, there were occasions when the cable would become loose. Thus, the car wouldn't start--even though I had a new battery. Once that was rectified, however, no problems :D.

man i had the same problem and the culprit was a screw loose at the veryfront on the raditor support with two wires coming off of it. that was the problem it was corroed and i had to clean it and problem was solved.
