Air Intake Box

Post by dp » Mon Sep 25, 2006 9:50 am

I bought a K&N filter to replace my regular filter and I was wondering how well it would work out to leave the air box without the cover. The one thing worrying me is the oxygen sensor that goes on the tube that goes down the fender. What would I do with it? Without the cover, that tube stays too loose to leave it there...

No, seriously, brand stickers give your car up to 2 HP increase EACH!
They really do. Try them out. Go wild. Put fifty of them on your car.

First, its ok to leave the lid off... Second, thats not an oxygen sensor, its an intake air temperature sensor. Third, i dont know what to tell if the pipe is loose. It shouldnt move to much, if it does, it wont hurt anything.

My buddy left his lid off all the time and it does just fine.

But the question is, is there a gain by leaving it off?

Thanks,

NO there isn't in fact the opposite. Yea it sounds cool but you will be sucking hot air from the engine bay rather then cool air from the fender. And yes it might cause some issues. If the iAT sensor is reading the cool air coming from your fender and the car is realy getting the hot air from inside the engine bay then the reading from the IAT will be wrong. Will it be enough to cause an issue probely not but it's possible that it might.

What you should do is, drop in your new filter, leave the lid on, remove the resonater from inside the fender well. I did that for a while until I got my CAI. Works pretty nicely, and was a little louder

I have K and N, stock box (top included) with the resonator removed. Sounds good and performs good.

It's how I have it. Resonator really pissed me off, I never put it back after I took out the CAI.
