I got about $40k invested in my neon tell your brother to go get that bike.timplett wrote:Or any forum. No thread ever stays on its original topic for long. But I would sure like to see some finished pics of that widebody kit instead of reading all these posers talking about ricing their cars so they look like a $40 000 POS that my little brother could outrun on his bike.

who cares, if your ultra fast neon, that looks stock was sitting next to mine, it wouldn't get a second look, however mine would have all of the models taking pics with it, no pics of your ultra fast sleeper will make any magazines.timplett wrote:Is any of that $40K under the hood?KrackstaR wrote:I got about $40k invested in my neon tell your brother to go get that bike.timplett wrote:Or any forum. Who cares if people look at it? I build the car for me, not for everyone else. And by the way, I do plan on doing some nice exterior work AFTER the car's got some balls under the hood. I love that widebody kit, if it wasn't so expensive to put something like that on I'd do it in a second. After I turbo it of course.

^ u speak as if ur mind is set....
good luck getting a hold of the money ur talkin about, at our age its best to have a comfy daily driver (with a back seat)
its important for the car to look good
so dunt go and run all that shit about u need balls under the hood then focus on the outside... ill tell u from first hand experiance , u keep thinking that way and ur car will always be a stock neon
wait till ur out of school b4 u focus on the engine side... im not sayin dont do nething, but if the plans ur talkin about are a full build and boost then ur talkin at least 5 gs... if u have that kind of money go for it but if u had that kind of money laying aroung u wouldnt be drivng a neon
at the same time im in no way tellin u to get this kit, its way over done imo and only suitable for a show car

For the record, I am out of school, and working full time. I know it's going to take time to get that money, that's why I'm only going to do a few small things here and there and save up. Thing is people think they're just going to tweak a few things for looks and before they realize what happened they've put $10K into a car. I definetely wouldn't mind having a nice looking car, but the kind of stuff I'd want to do would be completely at the expense of getting performance out of it, so it's not going to happen, at least not for a while. That's why at the moment I'm driving with a semi-crunched fender and an unpainted bumper. I could fix it, but there's more money just because I'm worried about what other people think.
I have nothing against making your car look nice, but one of my biggest pet peeves is looking at a decked out car and saying "Wow, that's a nice car." then realizing that no, it's not a nice car, it's a Neon that's bone stock other than a set of rims and chunks of plastic on the front and back. That said I have a lot of respect for people that can actually make a Neon look nice and be nice, not just rice it out.
Also, I definetely am concerned mostly with it being practical. That's why the sub I put in the trunk (replaced broken stock radio, got out of hand) is in a custom fiberglass enclosure molded behind the fender out of the way (yes, I wanted it to look good too). That's also why I won't lower it, because we get too much snow, even though lowering a car not only makes it look better but also perform better.
I do apologize if anything I said has offended anyone. Most of the time the customization around here consists of cutting the coils, slapping a body kit and tall gaudy spoiler on, getting some sporty looking seat and steering wheels covers and pretending you've got a good car. Being fairly new to the forum I've learned quite a bit since some of the stuff I said, and it seems most of the people here really aren't like that, so really all I have to say is make the car live up to it's looks.

Hey man im sure u didnt offend neone, at least you have the right mindset either way.
I am crazy about performance too i swore to myself i wanted a bone stock neon with only engine work to be a sleeper. But, i absolutely hate the front end of my 2000 LX so i need an r/t bumper. I had a lil unforseen accident and so on.
But here is something to consider, if u are so focussed on performance, think of what you will use it for. Spending 5gs for all the engine work just to show off ur car in a straight line isnt really worth it.
Myself im setting my car for auto-x. So im serious about every little aspect.

Yeah, like I said, I'm going to be doing some little mods. Not sure what order I'm going to do stuff in, but I'm going to get an STS, strut bars, sway bars, do some brake work, possibly rear disc swap. All of those things aren't big money by themselves but will make a big difference. I am planning some interior appearance stuff too, to keep myself happy, and those riding in my car. Possibly some carbon fibre, and some white accents, nothing too fancy or ricey. After that's it's just saving for the big stuff.

^^^^ he's going to be one of the first ones to get it ( if not the first one) Lambo is gonna rock the SEMA with it this year. the body kit that was on the picture was the prototype i beleive. it still needs to be shipped to Japan for molding.<----- i think that's the story behind it.

Ok, for the whole show-n-go thing...I'm going for mostly show, cuz I know without an SRT swap, this Neon isn't going to be much of a go-er, and personally, I don't wanna put that much money into the motor. Turbo is too spendy for me, so if anything, I'd do all the bolt-on shit and go nitrous. I just like people lookin at my car while I'm driving the speed limit, cuz then people get a good look at your car, instead of spooling a turbo up and blasting past the people who really WOULD like to look at your car. That's it on that topic...
Now, about the wide-body kit...DAMN that's a huge bitch! LoL! I think it will look really good on lambo's car though. It's the only wb so far that has caught my attention. The others don't flow very well IMO. I send my hopes and prayers to lambo and his project...GO GET 'EM BRO!
Also, on that "clean" wide-body in those pictures...I bet you that the front "SRT" bumber is just one of those Howell fiberglass bumpers, cuz they never did have the nostrils like the SRT-D, but they also had the lip that's found on the SRT-4. It just makes sense.
That's my stories and I'm stickin to 'em!
