Hard Shifts

Post by atom » Thu Sep 28, 2006 11:47 pm

My 4 speed auto has been doing some really hard shifts and its really overdue for a flush. Should I assume this is the cause of the hard shifts or do you think its something else? Please only reply if you know what your talking about, not if you have a theory. Hell, I have theories. Nonetheless tuesday or wednesday of next week I am getting this thing flushed.

its hard shifting since its hot and prolly running a tad too hot. i had the same problem so what i did was i got a 180 t stat and that REALLY helped, the trans shifts smoother and the engine stays cooler. if your overdue, get it now.

Mine does that too, don't worry about it and don't waste anytime/money to fix it. Oh, and don't even bother talking to a dealer. You'd be better off having a four year old look at it. BTW, it is a very common 2003 problem, along with bad gas milage on an ATX (03).

Its actually a pretty good trans as far as ATXs go. Takes alot tp blow it....belive me I was on my second 4 speed ATX before I started my swap. I used to deliver newspapers with it and put the pedal to the floor and stop again 20 feet later. Laughing Considering it lasted 80k miles with the beating I put on it then its def a good trans. Only bad side is there isn't many upgrades for it. Only thing you can do is ad external secondary cooler and filter. I did that after the first trans blew and I am happy with the way it shifted afterwards.
