VIDEO UPDATE. Any known exhaust vibrations on an 03?

Post by danman132x » Tue Oct 03, 2006 10:39 pm

At near 2700-2800 in any gear while driving and accelerating, my car makes a bzzzzzt sound. It sounds like metal vibrating on something at only those rpm's, and today i had the rear seat completely out, and the sound comes from under the car, not the engine bay. I lifted it up to find nothing. I'm going to go on a drive up ramp, but does anyone else have issues of metal sound vib's?

Heat shield. Mines completely rotted out directly around the rivet/bolt/whatever holds it in.

is happening all the time? even if driving for longer than 20 minutes????( i'm just trying to figure it out)
i had the same thing happening to mine but it was just some loose bolt in my exhaust pipes. it went away after 5-10 min of driving because of the expantion of the pipes when they heated up.

Mine rattled like that a lot, replaced stock exhaust with chambered muffler and SRT rear section, no more rattle.

It does it all the time. Right after start up, or driving for hours. Hopefully I can find where it's touching. It might be the fuel tank heat shield, or fuel lines. I have no idea. The exhaust pipe clears everything with inches to spare on all sides.

Perhaps something inside the muffler is rattling?

Could be that also. I'm going to get a few sound clips and post them up. When I rev, sometimes there is a metal sound coming out the muffler like a flap or something. I will post sound clips on this thread as soon as I get some.

Mine did exactly what you are describing. I believe it is internal in the Muffler. My neighbors always asked me what was wrong with my exhaust. I got tired of it and put a SRT exhaust on and no more rattling. (buzzing)

I have heard a lot about this. My exhaust wasnt touching anything. Your only solution is a new exhaust.

Cought it a little but not exactly sure what you are hearing. Might be muffler but go down and make sure with a mallet nothing else is vibrating loose. If you got 4 jackstands acces to a rack or what ever. Not a hammer but a platic mallet start tapping around and see if something is loose should be able to find it even inside the muffler.

I have a nasty rattling too. I comes on at the same exact RPMs yours does. With my neon the problem is the CAI and I can't get it to stop! I have tried sevral methods. Adjusting the CAI and using padded tape. Nothing works!

I had the same thing happen to my R/T rear section. Somthing broke off inside the muffler and was rattelling around. Everyone kept asking me the same thing. "What was wrong with my exhuast" I ended up throwing the exhaust away.

Only mine did it all the time. Just get a new muffler.

I have that rattle too. It happend shortly after I installed my OBX header and down-pipe. It does bother me...I checked under the car and the exhaust does not seem to be touching anywhere. ](*,)

From reading this I can guess that a piece of something has broke and is rattling around in my vibrant muffler...too bad.

My muffler makes a rattle sound when its cold and I bring the RPM's up. Somehting inside it I guess. Goes away in a few minutes once it heats up.

I had a couple distinct places my exhaust would rattle.... first it was rubbing right on the back bumper ever so slightly... the second place was against my sway bar, and then the other place it rattled was right were the stright pipe begins to turn at the back end of the car. After several looks at it - changes in the hangers which hold the exhaust and a little bending in certain locations - everything has ceased to rattle. I had a little help from the local Midas shop (they were extremely helpful) to get this taken care of.
