Don't use DHL - in my opinion!

Post by kc2005ptgt » Wed Oct 11, 2006 2:52 pm

I hate DHL. I work in shipping and receiving for a huge casino here in the midwest, and I deal with a lot of shipping companies, etc. Freight, packages, etc, and I have NEVER had a good experience with DHL. Whether it was their drivers, or timeliness of packages, or even getting a package in good condition - hell even UPS sucks at keeping a box intact, but they at least own up to it and take care of it - and get it to its destination!!!

So, the reason I rant is because I bought a comp 400 cam and aem cam gear from a member here on the forums for an AWESOME deal and the guy shipped it out timely, sent the tracking number, it was due in last week (sent on the 3rd). So the day after it was due, I called DHL and had them look for it. They call me back a few days later and said "we can't find it." CANT FIND IT?? What is your job? To ship packages and get them their in a timely manner. What else do you have to do?!?! NOTHING. So I told them how pissed I am at them and explained that the parts they lost cost me next to nothing compared to getting them brand new, and if I want to replace them, I have spend 4x's as much to get them!!

All I got is an apology and said they would start a claim and get the paperwork out to me. I said "oh gee thanks." Let me tell you something (talking to the manager on the phone) - I work for a large casino who ships hundreds of packages a week, and since I control what comes in and what goes out, I will NEVER use DHL EVER again. I will do everything in my power to get the company not to use them, and I will tell everyone I know never to use DHL again. All he said was that isn't necessary, and I said "oh yes it is, because this is a free economy, and I have the freedom to do what I just said, and not a single person can stop me." He just said thanks, and have a good day. I told him, find my package.

Jerks.

Ok, my rant is over.

I bought a Body Kit for my 95 Tercel from ebay and it took almost a month to get it home there policy says that the shipping should not take more than 7-12 days something like that, and i didint get mine untill like a month later. I will never use them they suck balls.

I used DHL once...but not my choice. The company I bought my coilovers from shipped them DHL, and I had to drive all the way to GA, about an hour into it to get my coilovers at 8pm at night.

It was retared. I only ship USPS or UPS.

USPS... so far they haven't lost anything of mine. Sucks about your cam though, good luck getting some money out of them. Last time I had something of mine come that was damaged was a CF hood that I bought from a company in Canada and was freighted to me by some Canadian freight company. Thing cost me a total of $900 and when it came they put it in the driveway, no one signed for it like they were supposed to and when I pull up the tracking info it still showed that the hood was in transit yet I had the damaged hood in the garage. Called 'em up, filed a claim with them and they couldn't figure out how I had it yet it still was in transit and that no one signed for it  Oh well... got most of my money back, they jsut wouldn't refund the money I paid for freight but all in all I got a CF hood with some damaged corners (not too bad, fixable) for only $100-200
Good luck though, hope you get some money back.

UPS is the way to go...they can get it to your door the right way. It may not always look pretty when you get it but it's there and they will work with you if you don't like the condition it's in.

I know how ups trucks are loaded and unloaded and sometimes it's bad what they do to them.

My only experience with DHL was a job interview in 2003. The dispatcher told me up front during the interview that, as a courier, it was standard operating procedure to exceed posted speed limits in order to complete deliveries on time. I have a CDL and paid a large tuition at a professional driving school to get it and there is no job out there that is worth having if I am expected to break the law and risk getting points on my license. I walked away.

Oh and this just reminded me of a recent thing with FedEx... I won't be accepting packages from FedEx without rubber gloves after what I saw this weekend. I was sitting in Sonic waiting for my Breakfast Burrito to arrive at my window  Look over at this FedEx truck that was in the parking lot over and next thing I know the FedEx guy is escorting a plain clothes woman into the cab of the truck. They talk for a little bit then he closes the side door and she walks into the back of the truck where the packages are. He pops the windows in the cap and procedes to walk into the back of the truck as well, pauses for a second then shuts the door behind him  Now I dunno what was going on it there but they were back there the whole time I was waiting for my food and eating it and were still back there when I left so my guess is he was having a tough time delivery his package or she was having a hard time finding it.... if you know what i mean  So yah... think twice next time you grab that FedEx package off your door step ;-)

UPDATE!!!

I talked to the fifth person in as many days today and finally got someone who cared about the fact that my package was lost. I also found out they only called the place here in KC and they did not know what it was, and did not have it  So, long story short, after 30 minutes of whining, I got her to look into it deeper and she found it.

I fainted and when I woke up she had called the lost and found and she had it sent to kansas city!!! I should get it sometime this week/end or monday. YEAH!!! I got a new cam and gear!!! YEAH FOR ME!

I still hate DHL, but not that lady who helped me.

At the athletic store I used to work at we used DHL. The dudes were always friendly and we had no problems. Thats just my experience. I can also say that my UPS stuff is also usually crushed, but most people know how to pack for UPS.

reminds me of the story a friend of mine told me about sonic. They were waiting for their food and a girl in shorts and skates rolled to the dumpster (has this fence thing around it) and went inside. This guy came out of the back of the building and went in wither her. He came back out a few miutes later and then she came out tuggin on her shorts

inspect your food at sonic

Ok, UPDATE again - this is rediculous! I called on Saturday after it never showed up and was never updated in the tracking system, and come to find out the lost and recovery center never got the 'message' to ship it out! So I finally go a supervisor to call someone and have them personally go a find it and put it on a truck.

So they said they would - that was on Monday. On Wednesday, it finally showed up in the system as being delivered and sent to KC, and as of 2:38pm CDT the package was delivered... only not to me!!! Now they have no clue where it was dropped and someone named IRVIN signed for it. DAMMIT!

I give up.

FINAL UPDATE

Got it. Damn morons. I work at a casino in KC and it has over 12 restaraunts an 18 theater cinema, arcade, huge pavillion and over 4000 games. SO, the DHL guy decided to just deliever his packages wherever the hell he felt like. Took me over an hour to find out where, but I got it - and the guy I spoke with at DHL is filing a complaint against the driver and all other peoples names associated with my package with their corporate offices.

FIRST guy to actually offer me something other than a freaking apology. Oh, and btw - I was pissed. I have never been such an arse in my life towards another person on the phone.

Anyway, I got it, DHL sucks, and of course this is all my opinion and is based fully on my experiences with this company and is true and complete to my knowledge. :)

Thanks for the moral support guys!!!
