Gauge Instrument change
The neon that I have has the speedometer that doesn't have the tachometer. I would love to install the white gauge panels that other neons had that had the white gauge panel. I am wanting to find out how this would effect my mileage. Thanks
I thought the only way to do it is at the dealership, and they won't even do it for you unless you buy it from them which is like 500 bucks or somewhere around that.Frizbe wrote:The mileage is stored on the cluster, so if you get an SXT cluster with 40k and your car has say 27k, the odometer will read 40k, there is soposedly a way to go through the OBDII port and change this, but I don't have nayhting to confirm this.

Yeah, but all I said was that there was a rumor that it could be done. I never said it was pratical.Paralyzer wrote:I thought the only way to do it is at the dealership, and they won't even do it for you unless you buy it from them which is like 500 bucks or somewhere around that.Frizbe wrote:The mileage is stored on the cluster, so if you get an SXT cluster with 40k and your car has say 27k, the odometer will read 40k, there is soposedly a way to go through the OBDII port and change this, but I don't have nayhting to confirm this.

Try to find one as close to your milage as you can. I got lucky and mine is only about 2500 off. Some people get them and wait for their milage to catch up and then swap them in.

The dealer has to send the cluster out to get reprogrammed, the dealer does not have the equipment to change the programming stored in the cluster. The DRBIII can shange the mileage on the pcm not the lcuster...Frizbe wrote:The mileage is stored on the cluster, so if you get an SXT cluster with 40k and your car has say 27k, the odometer will read 40k, there is soposedly a way to go through the OBDII port and change this, but I don't have nayhting to confirm this.
I called the dealer yesterday. They told me something very stupid. For one, like BRR said, they will have to send it off. For two, you can't give them a cluster from the junkyard and send that one in. They go by the VIN # on your car and will only do the milage change on a NEW cluster bought from THEM and it would have to be the same exact style that came in it stock. No change from having a tach or not having a tach. I told the guy plainly that dealers are idiots and should be shot for the stupid crap they put customers through. I also let him know that their stupidity is what causes many people to not by a dodge. Just like he tried to sell me a whole freaking bezel for $100. I needed only the HVAC sticker from it and he said that I couldn't get it that way. I told him to shove it and went the speedhut.com and bought one from them. Screw the dealers. I won't by anything from them again. Not even a can of touch up paint!
