Just got a neon..got some questions

Post by -Nicky- » Sun Oct 15, 2006 9:01 pm

hey everyone...im new to this site and new to owning a neon...I've wanted one since I was young and now I finally own one, a 2002 black sxt, what I always wanted. Anyways, I want to hook it up (tastefully of course) and I wanted some opinions for cheap sites or ideas or whatever. I know I deffinately want to get eyelids for the headlights and im going to black out the taillights, I always wanted a black car with green neons and accents. So any suggestions for anything I appreciate. Thanks :D

welcome new amigo! i would say ebay is prolly the best place to get cheap parts... that, or the for sale section here on the forums, you can get some good stuff there, too

^though ebay is indeed cheap, I wouldnt suggest going there for parts. Sure, a good deal on a real brand name product is great, and even ive used ebay for finding cheap deals on stuff I already researched, but id suggest avoiding the knock offs, for obvious reasons. other than that, theres modernperformance.com, which has lots and lots of good neon shit for a pretty fair price.

oh and welcome! lets have some pics of the neon.

photobucket works great. use the IMG tag (the bottom one), copy it, and paste it in a new thread (or this one, judt edit your first post). its simple as pie.

Damn what the hell is with all the girls getting on here all of a sudden  Not that I'm complaining since the female to male ratio on here is just sad but whats to expect, it is a car forum

Anywho... Welcome to the site, enjoy your stay, feel free to ask question but please use the search first ;) haha... have to say that haha. Ummm.... let see, sounds like you have some plans for your car, I just dunno about the green though :-? Sounds a little too Fast and the Furious fo rme since they used black civics with green neons under them in the first movie :-? Don't let me stop you thoug, your car is your car so have fun with it and welcome Nicky!

trust me, me wanting to do black with green has nothing to do with any movie or anything other than me wanting a black car and my favorite color being green so im putting them together. And i don't let anyone stop me...every single person i know hates neons and they told me for years why the heck do you want a neon??? blah blah blah but hey i still got one, so i do what i want, period.

Welcome!!!! :P

If you're planning out blacking out the taillights, I would recommend a product from VHT called Spray Window Tint. VHT also makes a product that's super popular, called Nightshades (which is basically the same thing, but the fluid is thicker) but that stuff is pretty rare anymore. Anyways, that's how I tinted my tails and they turned out really nice!

Might i suggest also... if you tint the tails, also tint your side markers and 3rd brake like. Along with that, tint the windows some. A solid black car is just freaking hott.

Plus, doing those few things wont cost much at all... and even debadge the rear and sides helps to smooth the car out. Plus, all you need is a heat gun there. Who can beat a free mod? :D

*nods* Good point. My car is an '03, and I just look my side molding off the other month, and I didn't have a single problem... but some did... So, I would suggest doing a little re-search and being careful.

Do NOT go to Howell unless you want dicked over... or want to wait MONTHS to get your parts.

I think thats been most peoples experiece seeing that most feedback that has been left about them on here and other places isnt' what you'd consider good

Either way Nicky, my comment wasn't ment to come off as being a dick or anything which is why I said to do what you want since it is your car. Different strokes for different folks right? Congrats on getting the car and by all means, don't be a stranger ;) lol

Welcome! It's nice to see more girls joining, makes me think me, Christina, and Jacquelin aren't alone.

Tinting the tails, third brake light and side markers are probably the cheapest mod, or close to it. Might I suggest 1st gen springs to lower it? You can find 1st gen springs for pretty cheap, I got my ACR ones for 60 bucks I think it was. Oh there's so many things to do and so little money...

And don't mind the guys, they generally scare the new girls off, but once you get use to them you'll be alright.
