possible new product...

Post by NiteHawk » Wed Oct 18, 2006 9:26 am

Ok, so i'm sure SOME of you have seen on SRTForums in the Lighting Mods section that people are having trouble with the SuperStar and SuperStar SuperWide LED Bulbs going bad quickly. I think i may have a solution that's not a bad price, lasts a lot longer than those bulbs, and comes with a decent warantee to boot...

The projected price of this is about or a little bit more than the cost of buying a complete guage cluster lighting and HVAC lighting kit from Auto Lumination (though my product will only be for the cluster), as a price comparison.

The effect with the Auto Lumination bulbs is you get the nice BLUE color instead of the greenish stock color, but then you lose your redline, and with the Auto Lumination bulbs, you get "hot-spots" in the guages where there's more light in some areas than in others.

Auto Lumination carries no warantee on the original SuperStar bulbs, but supposedly will warantee the new style, even though i've seen cases of either burning out quickly anyways. The lifespan i've seen from people on SRTForums ranges from 2 WEEKS to 6 MONTHS before they fry.....at $8-$10ea i dont think you wanna replace them every few weeks, lol, i know i dont!

MY product however is not bulbs, its a complete circuit board that would sit inside of the guage cluster housing, and has a bunch of surface mounted LED's on it, with BLUE for the numbering, RED for the redline and warning areas, and WHITE for a little added Needle light. Projected price is about $75, would come with most likely a 1year warranty against defects and bad led's, would give you the smooth even blue color everyone wants, and have a much longer life span than the other guy :D

oh btw, 2gn HVAC boards to follow soon after ;-)

Ok everyone, lets see what YOU think, I put this in the interior section because i'm not selling it..........................................yet

Sounds like a good idea to me, since the blue L.E.D.s i have in my cluster right now took away all my reds, and is barly bright enough for me to see the numbers at night... I might be down, after I see a final product.

Oh... and umm... shouldn't you be getting the brake light and dome lights done first? :D

i'd be interested in these as well... opi, i'm sure the brake and domes will be out to us waiting customers soon. i've done a bit of business with nitehawk before, and have never had a problem with him yet.

I am in for this! This will my my life easy, I won't have to put in the damn reverse glow gauges (which look cheap anyways...). It'll make my life easy when it comes time to buy matching gauges as well!

Make sure that you don't offer more than one color, .

Let's see some pictures, and then I will purchase it.

Like someone mentioned before, this guy is a great person and vendor. Is true to his word, and can be completely trusted...

Thanks for the support guys :) i'm still working some stuff out with the factories, i wanna find out who can make what i need, the best, and for the best price. i'm looking into options OTHER than a solid stiff circuit board, i've seen circuit "boards" that are actually 2 plastic layers with the needed circuitry in between them, THIS would be PERFECT for this situation where space is limited...

i'll keep yall posted as to what i find out :)

So I was thinking while driving my g/fs neon... about the whole gauge cluster w/tach, w/o tach... are you going to be making boards for each different design?

Will they illuminate the stock redline and needles well?

I'd be very interested in this once the HVAC board is out so I can do both at the same time and have them match without people asking me "why is that a different color than this?" lol

BUY IT! lol

Im sure once you make the product and it turns out good, alot more people will buy them, esspically if they are plug in play. A picture is worth a thousand words I guess is the right saying in this case. I was waiting for someone to solve this led disaster. If you do the HVAC to match that would be killer as well.

+1 Nitehawk!

50 names now, board design is nearly complete :)

the way its being done though is changing a little. I've learned that teh little tabs on the back of the guage face are directly responsible for the needles lighting up, and hitting these tabs is critical. I will be including led bulbs for hitting those tabs, and the board for lighting up the speedo and tach.
