4.12 final drive

Questions about axles, transmissions, differentials, pretty much anything that connects the engine to the wheels, this is the place for those questions.

no 4.12's that I am aware of, would be cool tho.

all T350's were 3.55 or 3.94, inlucing both 1.8L and 1.6L export engines (which had the magnum trans)

You should get good 1/8 mile times but you are going to hate it if you drive your car on the highway.

The guy has his part numbers mixed up, and if he what he says is true...
5017892AB - Complete 4.12's w/ diff - $530.00 MSRP ($375.24 my cost)

But its an Export part only and we would see if any of our Canadian or Euro buddies can get there hands on them. If I think of it, I could call a local dealer in Canada to see what my cost is and availability from them.

4.12 + lsd = fun launching

Only 16lbs in weight....not much to ship...
I talked to my regional manager today and I have to call DCx Expediting to see if they will allow me to order those diff setups. If they aprove anyone who wants 4.12's could pay what I posted above plus shipping for a set of 4.12's :D Maybe I'll do a little mark up since this ORG member is getting $1000 each  ....kidding
I'm also going to ask about being able to order other export parts too, if I have any luck(knock on wood) I might be able to get my hansd on other export parts too, but there are no guarantee's...
I'm still looking into this

The part number he posted is not for the entire diff, just the gears...
He must have a DCx contact here in the states or in europe since even a canadian dealer cant order one(I called).
I'm going to call expiditing to see if they can allow me to order export parts since there is a market here for some things:
Tails
Gears
Turbo manifolds(pre srt)
Etc.....

How about south of the border?

I think he's getting them from the original supplier.

So this part number is the diff+ring gear AND the output shaft?

EDIT:

Supposably some Saturns runing the NVG T350HD have 4.12's. This may be worth a closer look too.

$377.79 plus shipping....
I called expediting and they said I could call them and place any order through them. Wich means if anyone is interested in this let me know before I take the time to order them.
Oh and this means all export parts too :)
Shipping time will vary since if a local depot does not stock it they would have to get it for me....

#2 in the picture(5017893AA) runs $215.00msrp ($152.22cost)

Im wondering if he is selling a retrofit package that comes with everything you need to install the 4.12's, since the outputshaft is different for all 3 gear sets......

#21 in the picture (5018762AA) runs $1280msrp (906.24cost)

Holy crap 4.12's..... That would pwn. But I don't know if 65 MPH being at ridiculously high rpms would be worth it. Maybe in a track only car.

From the info I gathered, we "might" be able to replace the gear in the first pic, part numbered #2 without further changes. But its a matter of someone trying it to be sure....

How bout the speedo gear? Would that need to be relpaced to maintain accuracy? Or is the speedo gear driven directly off the output shaft as to maintain accuracy no matter which ratio is in it.

driven off the output shaft, the only difference is the color of the gears based on tire size and what not...

b/c you end up having to press gears off/on output shaft or buy a euro gear ratio (which sucks iirc). it ended up being cost prohibitive. best bet is still the 2001 pt cruiser. it's a 3.94 with the long (o.d.) 5th. gear. it's like getting an r/t trans but with o.d.!!!

Or the old 1g Sport trans, with a 3.94.

A friend of mine had a 97 Sport DOHC. 3.94 w.72 5th.

you may want to verify this, but i believe that the internals were beefed up for the 2gn and pt cruiser over the earlier 1gn neons. iirc the tq ratings are higher for the trans as well as larger, stronger axles.
