what is the purpose of the underhood switch on the passenger side f the engine compartment? Is it a kill switch of some kind?.I know you can have the engine running with the hood open, so what does it disable?

It's for the stock alarm system when it's enabled. If the alarm is turned on and the hood, trunk, or doors are open it will set it off. In either 01 or 02 they completely removed the switch for cost cutting measures.

It's a switch for the alarm. Open the hood, lock the car then set the alarm, shut the hood and the alarm will go off.

So someone pops your hood, alarm goes off.

Yeah I have that on my 2000 LX and wondered what it was for a long time. One time a few years back when I had my grill piece out, someone tried to open the hood in the middle of the night and the alarm went off....I think they jacked with it and popped it "almost" open.

Yeah, alot of aftermarket alarms also install one of these switches, its incase someone tries to cut the battery from the get go, you get some alarming first...
