please help, this is getting sort of dangerous!
im getting codes p0508 and p1684
well, what may car is actually doing is that while im driving its fine but when i slow down, it will either die under like 20 or it will idle so hard the whole car shakes and i have no idea what it could be, and when it starts to die at night all the lights go dimmer then it dies
the mods i have are k/n filter on tb, mufler, mopar wires and botch 4+ spark plugs
could any of those cause it?
please help me i need all i can get
i was driving today and it died on a turn and there was a cargo truck coming right at me at around 45 miles an hour, luckly i got it started in time to go and get up to speed
also...
and i dont know if this is related but sometimes theres is a loud buzzing type noise in the front drivers side fender when im at idle
it sounds like its coming from that stock black intake tube that goes ito the fender any ideas what that could be?
all help would be appreciated[/b]

#1 take those plugs you're using and replace with the cheap champions. That would be my best bet.
The p1684 is just the disconnected battery code
I believe the other code is
P0508 Idle Control System Circuit Low (from a non neon site).
That is why I believe it's electrical, and plugs would be the first thing I would check.
RC9YC is the Part number for the Champion plugs.

as everyone else has suggested, switch back to stock plugs, if it continues with stock plugs take it to the dealer, pay the $40~ diag fee and find out whats wrong

Hiyas
ABSOLUTELY get rid of the Bosch plugs. I first tried then 20yrs ago in a '69 Opel GT and they didn't work nearly as well as a set of Champion plugs.
The Champion plugs for Neons are updated to a RC9YC4. They have an extended inner gap to fire hotter. I put a set in my '04 R/T and they made a major difference in idle quality and throttle tip-in response.
Clean the throttle body and idle air control passages.
Reset the fault codes and if these don't fix your problem, get it to the dealer.
Let us know what fixes it.

About these codes still being on...SleeprNeon wrote:hey guys thanks for your help, i replaced the plugs and the problem isnt happening anymore, but the engine light is still on, with the same codes, and if i were to clean the idle air control passages, where and what are those?
Have you reset the ECU? Basically disconnect the negative battery terminal for like 20-30 minutes. Hook it back up...bam no codes. If the codes come back now...then there's something else that needs to be addressed.
