OEM or CF Hood

Post by FTWNeon » Sun Nov 12, 2006 3:06 pm

Well the insurance check came in and I need a new hood. I'm debating on getting a CF or OEM one. Looking for some input. What do guys think of the whole red and black theme?

Get the CF, if you don't like the black on red look then have it painted ;-)

Or maybe get one of those colored CF hoods. Those are probably more expensive, though.

Played around with it with my extra trunk and got a bit of a feel for it.

Heh, If I don't like it I can always paint the car to match the hood too!

That's the only place I found them and they only have the SRT version. Comes out to be about 620 shipped. The Kaminari hood is about $860 shipped.

Bah at the SRT version. :(

I thought there was a vendor somewhere else that made OEM colored CF hoods... I'll have to look around. :-k

Keep hearing people saying the Kaminari is the one to get, but 860 shipped just seems like quite a bit to me, is it really worth it or should I mabye try and find a differet one?

The kaminari hood is really good quality. Im sure diablo0 will chime in w/ pics of his. It fits well, and looks great.

Fit wise, the VIs racing hood that I have is very nice also. If only someone hadnt keyed mine a while back :( but it fits great! :D

 Can't beat the Kaminari but you've already seen the hood in person Dave, on several occasions lol.

Also, the colored CF ones aka Kevlar seem to fade over time and only come in the SRT version. I believe LowNSlow had one on his SRT and ended up taking it off for how bad it started to look.

Not on how bad it started to look.. it looked fine. I took it off because it was one of the first production ones made for the orange blast.. and the color didn't match well at all..

The silver ones.. eblue and all those matched pretty darn good though.

Don't go cheap on the CF hood.. trust me. ive had good CF hoods and Ive had cheap ebay ones... You can tell a difference.....fitment and quality.

I stand corrected, I could of sworn you said the color started to really fade.

And I'd also agree on not going cheap.... DON'T! If you're going to get one do it right the first time... I bought 3 CF hoods before acquiring the Kaminari. In buying those 3 (2 RD, 1 JSP)I could have purchased two Kaminari's.

Well, I think for now I'm just going to get a normal hood. I have other things I think I'd rather spend the money on and $860 is alot of cash. Might get one later on though.
