Getting Ideas for Sound System

Post by JuniorMT » Mon Nov 13, 2006 1:35 am

I think I found What I Want to do...Let me know your thoughts on this setup! Any Strong input would help, because i am back and forth on what i want to do. I want to avoid putting in a sub for now, But want to know if this will give me more than enough sound and bass, just for now.

Screw the rears and put a sub in the trunk. I know you don't want to but it will give you much better sound (not only the heavy bass but the sound in general).
The other stuff seems just fine. Alpine makes very good headunits and MB Quart's are pretty good speakers aswell.
Offcourse, a headunit with Hi voltage outs would be even better, but they also cost more...
But trust me on the subwoofer part. I have a component 6,5" in the front and a sub in my trunk, all on a 3-channel amp. That's it!
But it sounds freakin amazing! You really don't need any rear speakers. I've had it before and I must say it sounds better the way it is now.

dont screw the rears. do all of it and add a small 8 or a 10. put it in a light compact box that can be easily removed for weight.

I invite you both to come listen in my car. I run a 6,5" component set from Boston Acoustics and a DLS 10" Iridium subwoofer, all on a DLS A5 3-channel amp. Then come tell me again I need rears...

having rear or not having rears is a matter of preferance...

they like rears, you dont

i myself have rears, i like it better with them, i dont like hearing sound coming from just in front of me

That's true, some like it surround. However, my sound doesn't seem to be coming from only the front. You would be amazed about what finetuning can change in the way your audio sounds. At the shop we once had a car packed with all Type RF (top of the line Rockford Fosgate) equipement and it just sounded crappy. We worked on it a couple of hours, just changing and tweaking settings and it made a world of difference.
Visit EMMA sound competitions sometime, and you'll see that a good 3way setup is all you need to fill the car with sound.

Ive been peicing together a fairly moderate SQ system... heres a few things i'm gonna do.

first order of business is deadening the car. raamat gets really good reviews and doesnt break the bank. http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi

speaker wise im going to go with some cdt 2 way components, if I had more money 3 way would be a better way to go, but also requires more tuning. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fus ... ct_ID=4894

Personally im going to disconnect the rear speakers and just run a front stage. possibly hook them up to the head unit for rear fill.

amps, Diamond audio 3 series amps get the job done and are decent for SQ. you can find them on ebay in the 200 dollar range.

subwoofer, Image dynamics make some GREAT subwoofers. IDQ10" will suffice.
http://www.speedsound.com/product.asp?s ... =jmnpoohrc

these you can put in a tiny sealed box (less than 1 square foot of volume) and they still output a ton of sound.

equipment is only half the battle. most people dont put in enough effort with the installtion. even with nice equipment if your installation sucks so will your sound system. research research research :)
