Adjusting e-brake

Post by excaliberneon » Fri Nov 17, 2006 12:38 am

I recently did a rear disc conversion on my '00 Hi-line. When I apply the e-brake the car still likes to roll. I have to leave it in gear in order for it to not roll.

I've heard there is a way to adjust or tighten them...only I have no book to reference. Is there a way to do this? Do I have to remove the caliper and rotor to access it?

People on SRT Forums have said to go in reverse at about 5 mph and then yank the ebrake and it will adjust it.. but I'm not standing behind that.

Interesting...It's worth a try, unless I hear otherwise.

Anyone else have any "otherwise" information?

I tried that once. It didn't help. I'm going to try the "screwdriver" method this weekend to adjust the star wheels.

The "back-up " method works well on my car equipped w/ rear drums. I roll backwards at about 5-8kph, then firmly (but slowly) pull up the e-brake. I do it 3-4 times, and after that it is much better.

that method WILL not work on cars that have disc brakes in the rear...
On the backside of the backplate on the rear brakes there is a rubber cap that covers up a hole. Pry that off (flathead screwdriver works best) and you'll see a gold colored splined piece of metal right inside the hole. Spin that piece upwards (i think, it'll only spin one way) a bunch of times and test it out. Do it to both sides equally.

Ah, found what I was looking for...

Follow that step by step, and you'll be golden.
