Est. Crank&Wheel HP

Post by CrashTeam » Fri Dec 01, 2006 1:41 am

Ive been wondering something...

I was curious what you guys would think the HP would be of a certain setup

01-02 magnum 2.0 Motor

Intake
2.5in. Exhaust to a low Rest. Muffler
Longtube Header
Fully Ported/Polished Head with 5 angle Valve Job
Fully ported/polished Intake Manifold
Crane 14 Cam
60mm TB
UDP
AFX Ecu

I would guess maybe 160 whp? Maybe 175 or so at the crank?

somewhere around there. Ive really come to think that a neon with a standalone ems could get into the 200hp range if it had all the major mods and some good tuning. the afx ecus just dont seem to make a difference. im still waiting for someone to tune an NA setup on megasquirt.

Here is a dyno of a first gen with a similar mod list.
The lower dyno is with a stock longblock, the second is the addition of a crane 14.

I'd say 160whp is a safe bet.

Wait for turbodudey, he has megaquirt up and running on his 02 - we shall see the end results, I am sure of it.

Problem is, he's not trying for any big hp numbers N/A. We'll bolt the turbo on as soon as we install a Walbro and an Aeromotive 1:1. Although it sure would be nice to dyno his car once it's fully tuned N/A for fuel and spark. Only other mods would be 60mm TB and a freer flowing exhaust.

Wait for me on the other hand..... 8) My goal is a MS powered N/A car with 200whp. The 200 whp is going to take a really big cam, probably a custom grind from Crane, and really good headwork, but even with a Crane 14, I think 180 whp is possible. I simply don't have the $1500 it will take to buy an MS unit, port the head, and get a bigger cam right now. Actually add another $1000 for a forged bottom end in high compression form....rats. Too much money....

For all that you could be close to 300 with a turbo

In all seriousness, our cars were not made from the factory to have forced induction. At the same time they were not made for NA either, seeing how much work it takes to get in the 180 range.

Very true. They were made to be cheap commuter cars. And here we are..numbering in the thousands, trying to make them fast. Oh what a joy. 8)

based on that dyno sheet i would say your guess is low....but im assuming the 1st gen did not have a p&p head and intake

I just wanna see what a neon SOUNDS like with 200whp. imagine the roar of a car with an extra 50-80 whp and a built motor. mine sounds like a monster and its only got a few bolt ons. mmmmm  Id bet that a nice stripped out neon w/ built 2.0 pushin 200whp would give an srt a run for its money EASY too.
