Oh, so the rabbit isn't the exact same thing as the golf? And the golf isn't a non-hatch jetta? I'm confused now.Frizbe wrote:And what exactly would be the point in have two two door coupes, with the same general styling, thus taking sales form each other?
Or is it because I drive a VW that I don't see the point in badgingthe same car under the same brand with two different names?

Do they still sell the Golf?pos_neontech wrote:Oh, so the rabbit isn't the exact same thing as the golf? And the golf isn't a non-hatch jetta? I'm confused now.
And let me know how a 3 door and 5 door hatch back equal the same thing as a four door sedan.

Yeah Mike was right, name calling didn't help get my point accross.J-Villa wrote:it was edited
I would like to say I don't think the Challenger design is bad, I think its cool, but the Charger needs to be a four door, or not exist at all. There is only room in the Dodge line up for one two door coupe.

Sales Did well when dodge had the challenger, charger, coronet, and demon. all two doors except for the coronet which was also optioned as a four door. all for a different price and option package. geared toward different buyers. granted the new "charger" is nice in its own right and as a four door sales have been fair. My thing is even as a four door they (designers) could have made it look MORE like the 68-70 dodge charger that its to represent. the mustang stepped up the bar and dodge countered with the challenger, which looks a lot more like the 70 challenger its supposed to.
That all i was saying.

Remove any LED looking lights, except the back panel and then I would be willing to place a bet that you're wrong there Mike...03sxt wrote:Those pictures don't do any justice for the new Challenger, though. Ask the guys that have been to any Mopar shows lately or Carlisle earlier this year.
It won't come off the line exactly like that, but that son'bitch sounded nice when they fired it up and revved the piss outta' it.
I'm with you on that.Frizbe wrote:And what exactly would be the point in have two two door coupes, with the same general styling, thus taking sales form each other?

Eagle Talon
Plymouth Laser
Mitsubishi Eclipse
Dodge Stratus
Plymouth Breeze
Chrysler Cirrus
etc... I just don't understand the concpet behind doing that.

Any or all of the above statement(s) may be entirely fictional and a fabrication.

Thisa is more along the lines of what I am trying to say, but the Charger Challenger thing would be like both the Talon and Eclipse being sold under the Mitsubishi brand. Two nearly identical vehicles veying for the same customer, costing realitivly the same ammount of money.titansxt wrote:I'm with you on that.

At least with the Jetta/Rabit they start at different prices (a bit not much different) while the Jetta provides Sedan sense with four doors and a trunk, which to me is much more enjoyable on a road trip. And the Rabbit gets you the extra cargo room (which I will need) without being a huge gas guzling SUV. Now the five door Rabbit dose start to 'step on some toes' with the Jetta, but there are enough buyers who want the sedan versus the hatchback to justify this.
I only used the VW thing because I drive one. Chrysler odse the same thing with the 300, Charger, and Magnum. People will buy the Magnum for extra space over the Charger, and likewise people will buy the 300 due to its superiorty complex. They don't want to be seen in a Dogde, but want a mid sized four door sedan, and don't mind the Chrysler name.

I read the thread, and i have more to add to it if you dont mind.
How can one car take sales away from another car if they are made by the same company? If anything, you are gaining sales, because you are making two cars very similar to each other, with just subtle differences, satisfying the picky customer.
Thats why for years auto makers have produced two of the same car, with just subtle differnces in body styling. For example: Ford and mercury, chrysler and plymouth, chevy and gmc. saab and subaru, etc.
Its pointless to question an auto maker on making these decisions, when they have already been doing it for years, with much success
