Crank Scraper/Windage Tray

Post by kc2005ptgt » Fri Dec 22, 2006 11:39 pm

Ok, I am thinking about getting these, and from what I have read and heard this is a good thing for our cars, as far as performance (??) and overall "health" of the car.

Questions, install is simply just removing the oil pan and putting in/on yes? And what exactly will this do for the car, as ffar as performance - some website that sells them (forgot what one right now) claimed 13tq on a 2.4L PT Cruiser... sound snice to me! But seriously, is this another mod like the UDP where it releases unharnessed HP, less critical mass rotation, thingy-stuff? And last, for about 130$ total, this sounds like a worthwhile mod, yes??? What else goes well with it, or could I should I do if I decide to go this way? Or should I not at all???

Thanks!

Depending on how agressive your driving is then yes its a good thing...keeps down oil aeration...keeps oil in the sump and off of the crank and off of the sides of the cylinder walls.
I can not answer for install....however I believe it is pretty simple.

As for performance....you might see a small hp gain...tho I think 13 is a bit overstated. It does this by, again, keeping excessive amounts of oil off of the crank...hence you motor has les rotational mass to keep moving.

As I said if you do agressive driving then it wouldnt hurt. Id go to
www.crank-scrapers.com
and order the tray w/ the teflon scraper....400 but hey...you get what you pat for.

Ok, so I think I am going to order one today - anyone have any input about them before I do this? Waste of money? Good thing? I read lots a bout them and I can not see any downside other than spending some moolah on it.
going with this one here->Image

I am thinking this is a good thing, so unless someone has some real good info other wise, I guess here goes!! :D

i wouldt spend more than 50 bucks on it but as stated before it does help keep oil off your crankshaft which keeps oil fom building up on it so yea its a good thing as far as hp gains i would look to 1-2 hp if that because its just scraping oil off your crankshaft and not doing much else.

yeah it basically reduces the mass of the crank by preventing the oil from sticking to it. At mid to high rpm, the oil and crank are basically one solid unit, which as u might guess, makes for a heavier overall mass rotating. Installing a performance oil pan and/or windage tray can reduce the power losses associated with this. I say go for it, who knows it might actually give u some power. these neons have to have SOME hiding SOMEWHERE! haha

the main advantage is that it limits aeration. the crank therefore doesn't have to go through a thick cloud of oil with each rotation. the motor builders that i've talkdd to swear by it and claim more than 1-2hp. contact darrell cox and let him explain more of it. he insisted on one for my motor build. it also allows for a quicker revving engine.
ooh...there's a glimmer of the dream left!!!

I can recall a topic about this mod from a few months ago. The guy, as he described it, said that after doing the whole thing the car felt as if it wanted to "rev to the moon". :lol: Sounds good to me. :P

Honestly I have not modified my oil sump but I do plan to... and from what I know you will have to get a new gasket. I think some simple high temp silicone sealant should do the trick though.
