Getting gas smell out

Post by Flying_NEB » Sun Dec 31, 2006 10:24 pm

I spilled gas in my trunk which seeped down under my rear seat onto my rear floor board. Anyone know how to get the gas smell out? I know about baking soda. I've already gotten rif of the trunk carpeting and I have the rear seat out of the car. I still need to remove the rest of the carpeting. But after that, does anyone have any suggestions?

My buddy took all the carpet out. Used some of that arm and hammer carpet powder junk. Let it sit for a day then used a carpet cleaner. Car smells alot better.

Thanks. That's the route I was thinking I'd have to do.

I did a search online and people seem to recommend Eucalyptus oil or Vinegar for getting the smell out of clothes so it might be worth a try. They also said to just the car sit open in a well ventilated area or take the carpet out and let sit until the gas evaporates as well as the smell.

Vinegar does work well, just fill a small bowl with vinegar leave it in the car overnight and pull it out in the morning.

Well, I've had a bowl of banking soda in there for a week now - still got the gas smell. I just put a bowl of vinegar in there - it's slightly less pungent now, but I still got gas. Maybe I should try gasX...ha ha ha. When it gets less rainy I'm going to take the carpeting out. I have no carport or garage at my disposal unfortunately. I'll be sure to post what finally happens though.

Aren't the purpose of those remedies to actually clean the gas spill area with them? :?:

Yah, you may want to try actually putting it on the area where the spill was :-? Baking soda will absorb the smell but if it's in the carpet you may need to apply it, leave ti set and then vacuum up.
