exhuast help/questions

Post by MarkGetsIt » Tue Jan 02, 2007 2:03 pm

so i picked up an OBX header for christmas, it comes with the downpipe with 2 o2 holes and no cat...

i'm not worried about emissions

so here's what i have exhuast wise so far:
obx header
no cat
JTautostyle's universal exhuast muffler
JTautostyle's center tip Image

i was wondering if i just pulled the muffler out all together and threw in a resonator, or even 2 resonator's, if it would keep it quiter then it is now, because its rediculously obnoxious

so pretty much i want a nice deep exhuast, no rasp, and don't care about emisions

help me out, thanks!

so i looked those glasspacks up, excited to see their really not all that exspensive

now should i just throw one in, and keep the universal exhuast, or should i take the exhuast out too and run a strait pipe to the evo tip and throw the glasspack in???

do you think i need 2 of these, or should one be ok

and finally, what diamater pipe do i have because i've tried searching and came up with a few diff answers... right now i have the obx header and downpipe from Modern

thanks!!!

You want to keep the tip right? Without a cat you will need a pretty damn big glass pack in the center tunnel if you dont want to run a muffler. If you can run some kind of muffler with that tip, then do that with a glass pack and you should be good. Without a cat your car is going to be really loud unless you make up for it. Another option is to get a highflow cat, or a turbo

Yeah, if you get the largest glasspack you can (30" or something...maybe a little bigger), you should be fine. And yes, I would recommend getting a high-flow cat as well.

i like it loud, just not the high pitch scream of someone running down the street with a weedwacker being applified with a megaphone... lol if i can go: header -> not cat -> glasspack -> universal muffler -> evo tip. and not have it sound like pure shit, i'll be happy. i mean you can seriously hear me coming from at least a mile away, and hear me leaving for ever...

i sound like every ghetto civic times a million

My setup now is a FF LTH-> e cutout->Cat->Moroso spiralflow-> THermal R&D rear section and it is still kinda raspy in the higher RPMs. LTHs tend to make the car raspier. I would put a cat on it just to get rid of the raspyness. Highflow cat won't hurt performance it might actually give you some more bottomend. My recommendation to you obx->cat->glasspack->straightpipe to the rear.

Unless you're getting a 'hot' e-test, depending on how strick your emissions laws are you may not even pass without the cat.

How to fix your car:
1. Buy a Haynes manual
2. Read Haynes maual
3. Read and search appropriate threads, trust us, it's been covered before
4. Fix car

ok so i need to get my exaust quiet asap... but i only have around $225 - $250 tops to spend on parts...

i seen the Mopar SRT cat delete pipe on modern and seen that it has one huge resonator, and then a smaller one. got me thinking, Vibrant makes a larger "ultra quite" resonator, and then they have their reg bottle shaped ones... my plan is to go either:

header > Ultra Quiet Resonator > Bottle Style Resonator > evo tip
and modern only wants around $140, the high flow cat options would be:

header > hi-flow cat > Bottle Style Resonator > evo tip
that setup is $197.99 from modern + S&H

i wish the Mopar cat delete pipe would fit, but i don't even think the flanges match up to my obx header... beat

i'm really leaning torwards the 1st setup because i don't care about emisions, and its cheaper... i just hope it does the job
