Crane Camshaft

Post by Adam_T » Thu Jan 04, 2007 8:41 pm

Anyone have this part installed on their car with the valve springs? Stage 1 that is. I cant find any dyno reports on the crane camshafts on the internet on how it does for your car.

Moved to General Discussion as this isn't a review of a part and is a question.

WTH is a stage 1 crane cam? I've never heard one of their products referred to that way.

How about a link to this "stage" before you start laughing. Usually you'll only see Crane Camshafts listed as Crane 10, crane 12, crane 14 (what's installed in my car), or their part number 158-0014 for instance. Nowhere on the http://www.cranecams.com website in the Neon SOHC section do I see anything listed as "Stage 1." I really hope there isn't a reseller out there labelling Crane Cams as stage 1, stage 2, etc.

im not laughing as in " making fun of any of you " so dont get the wrong impression. i have posted before that im new at this whole after market thing and the speed styles shop in charlotte NC was on the phone with crane getting a recommendation about the camshafts and he goes " they said stage 1 for your car "

so....dunno?

OK, this is only my opinion, but I think anyone that refers to a product incorrectly as "stages" (mopar's turbo upgrades for the SRT notwithstanding because that's what they ARE named) might not be the best folks to buy engine internals from. You might want to see if they are referring the "stage 1" cam that's actually something else (look at the part numbers).

There's been enough people putting cams in their cars around here I'm sure they can translate.

ya....i looked into this a little thinking that maybe by some slim chance they refer to the springs in stages....and as i correctly guessed, they do not....they only make one valve spring for neons so it is not a "staged" item....as stated before, the crane cams are 10, 12, 14.....any bigger crane is not smart on a street car....

it depends on what you want....14 is the most power for a street cam...but your stock springs wont handle the extra lift...a 12 is best for your stock springs but magnum or crane springs will handle the 14

if you go with the 14 your usable power will probably be beyond the rev limiter. if it were me i would get a 12 or a magnum cam

Crower callers their cams Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3...

Maybe you were confusing CRane and CRower ??? But Crower only offers DOHC. I would go for a Comp 400 if you will be NA. They have the best NA lift/duration/timing. Cranes are better for boost. IMO

The only place I would send you to is GMP performance. Ask for Steve, he is the owner. Tell him Jason Stewart sent you. Other than them there isnt really a good shop around here.
