radio not working

Post by SGT BRAD » Tue Jan 09, 2007 5:22 pm

before i began this drawn-out nitrous install i had an intermittant problem with my radio. a few times over the past year or so the unit wouldn't come on immediately when the car was started. however, it would always come on within a minute or so. the clock would work if you pushed "time" and the unit would eject a cd, so the memory side of things was working. however, the face would stay black until the ''time" button was pushed. i assumed that the head unit was going bad. finally the unit would never "finally" come on about a week or so before i put the car on blocks for the nitrous install. all non-keyed functions work, the radio just doesn't seem to come on. figuring that the unit had gone bad i took my backup factory head unit and voila the same problem. i located only 1 fuse for the radio and it's in the pdb under the hood 20amps but, it's good. is there another fuse? anyone have any ideas before i have to pull out the meter and start checking connections? thanks.

Yes there is another fuse. Look at the fuse box on the driver's side in the car. There should be one for moon/sun roof or something like that. I believe it has a 20amp in it. Check that fuse. I had the same problem when my battery died. for some reason when jumping my car it blew my fuse cuz the radio was on. It took me for ever to find the fuse.... Pulling out every single fuse until I found it....Try it and see what happens and let me know

you're awesome. that's exactly what it was. the idiots that screwed up my nitrous install had used it as a switched 12v source by jamming a wire down into the socket along with the fuse. i pulled the wire out when i redid the wiring, but never thought about the extra bulk stretching the contacts in the fuse block. a little elbow grease and we're working like a champ. thanks a bunch. you saved me hours of voltmeter testing.
