Getting only 15mpg #@$ASDF#
Well i reset my trip odometer at 3/4 of a tank and at 1/2 tank it only said 47 Miles. So that would be about 15 miles per gallon of gas. What is going on?!?!?
I have no mods except taking the resonator out of the fender.

did a quick search
said i should reset trip odometer when i fill up and all that then refill...see how much it went down...divide by my miles on trip odometer..
i will try that
I just hit 20k miles on my car and still have the stock airfilter
When should i change it?

Factory fuel gauge is pretty much worthless on almost any car. Odometer will tell you what you want to know. Another tip when you check it would be to fill up at the same station if you can. The point where the pump nozzle trips varies alot between gas stations.

that should be sufficient maintenance.
fill up reset the trip, run it till low, fill up again. divide trip miles by gallons put in.
YOU CAN NOT USE THE FUEL GAUGE FOR SOMETHING LIKE MPG, IT HAS TO BE ACTUAL MILES AND ACTUAL GALLONS.

Ugh... why though? You go onto other sites and thats all you see, it gets very annoying in both cases to see people ask questions that have already been covered but sometimes just as annoying to see people telling others to search. It actually makes it harder to find answers in the future b/c when you search you find a bunch of threads asking the question but the answers are all just telling people to search and not helping you much.
When it comes to laziness on the person asking the the question not to even bother searching and asking a bunch of questions that have already already been covered then there's a problem. However some people can be new to neons or even cars in general which can result in not even knowing where to start as far as searching goes. If you don't know the terminology it can be hard to search for something when you don't know what you're searching for.
I'd just ask that the whole searching thing be kept to a minimum. Answer the question for the person and politely remind them about the search. If it comes down to the person being lazy and not even bothering to do it and making a bunch of thread then that can be addressed then. Agree?

Excellent. I've seen this start to happen lately and it's definitely annoying. If someone asking a question that's already been answered and it's such a big deal, just don't answer it, unless of course you have a link to where the answer is contained.Diablo0 wrote:Ugh... why though? Well, could try putting some new plugs in, it would cost cost a few bucks and u'd eliminate that avenue of potential reasons.

Ok, if this is true you have a serious problem. No 4 cylinder should get that low fuel economy. Thats a 454 towing 10000lbs territory.00element10 wrote:i get about 6 miles to the gallon, that my friend, sucks
answer here or answer me in a pm or in a new thread but...
1. How do you calculate fuel economy?
2. What kind of driving do you do?
3. How much idling (approximately) is there on a tank of gas?
4. How often have you performed regular maintenance on the car, plugs, wires, oil, filters, etc?
5. Any check engine codes?
6. How often are you at wide open throttle?
7. How many miles are on the car?
8. Have you replaced the oxygen sensor lately?
9. How much additional weight is added to your car?
If I can come up with more I'll post those up too.

haha where to start. let's see:
it's a 96 SOHC turbo 4 door
it's got a fuel rail the size of a rolled up newspaper and injector's to match
everything's ported and polished. intake mani, turbo mani, turbo housing, throttle body.
there's tons of weight redux as it's really only the front dash and two racing seats left in it.
wat else...it's running super rich obviously
but the plugs are new, the wires are relatively new, i'm not leaking gas anywhere, and the motors got about 3000 miles on it.
now the headgasket blew so i'm not driving it now. But i've got a list of mods 2 pages long and a lot of them have to do with my average of about 6 miles to the gallon.
drove the car to work and back past my house to go to my gf's place...it's roughly 32 miles from my house, to my work, then to hers. and i go through a half tank of gas.
6 was a ballpark figure cuz i really dont feel like doing math now cuz i'm tryin to eat my lunch, but i'd prolly get about 70 miles to a full tank. And there's really not too many places to open the car up on my way to work. so i drive it pretty normal, shifting at about 32-3500 rpms

thats what i was thinking. i mean my car isnt that great on gas, because i tend to have a heavy foot... but i can put 47 litres of gas in my car, which is completely full, and drive for 450km till the gas light comes on... im thinking you might wanna check your plugs, wires, and o2 sensors.... definatly somthing wrong there.

the mods shouldnt affect the mileage that much, but if you are running super rich then that would be the main problem.00element10 wrote:haha where to start. let's see:

and at 20k the air filter would be a nice thing to change, though its not necessary and highly unlikely to be lowering your mileage, unless you drive thru dust and sand all day.

but my mom drove my car a couple days ago and said that when she drives slow in it the wheel moves back and forth...so she said were going to go take it in to see whats wrong.
but i dont think that would effect mpg

That's horrible. My last fill up where it's been sub -20°C (-4°F) half the month, and me driving the majority of the time in the city with the car barely warmed up and I still got 25usmpg (30imp mpg).

Did you replace the air filter yet?
U could reset your ECU. Just disconnect the negative battery cable..
