Why are the dealers around my town evil :<
I'm trying to get my alarm activated at a dealer, because the car has the option, but not active. As in if I lock the car, but open doors, no alarm. 03 Neon R/T. 1st dealer I call doesnt have a clue, and no one has ever asked to get it activated. 2nd dealer knows, but tries to charge me $80. WTF. I have read in multiple posts on here it is a user choice, and can be done for free. 2nd dealer excuse was that they cant do it for free because I'm not the original owner. I have 1 dealer left to call, but I'm sure the results will be the same

You probably do. There's an article around here that explains it - I should've asked the guy from the dealership about this on the phone. Maybe I'll ask him tomorrow and see if they'll enable mine.
That's crappy that your dealership's being stupid like that. Like BRR had said somewhere, I think... They shouldn't charge you for something like this.

Yah, I've been searching for it somewhere that someone posted up the reason why it wasn't activated and the reason came strait from DCx.
I think you should or may have VTS listed on your Window Sticker which would also show in their system when they pull up your VIN. They should see that the car is equipped but not turned on. If they try to charge you $80 they'll pretty much steeling your money since it takes all of 2min for them to turn on
If they refuse I'd start making some calls to Dodge to complain...

Well when i had mine activated in my sxt they argued with me for an hour and i had to talk to a manager to actually talk them into tryin it i even brought the directions from the posted topic for them so they wouldnt screw up and it worked and from what i know as long as you have keyless you have the option for the alarm. They were amazed it had it. Needless to say if you fight with them for a bit they will do it and as far as gettin charged for them doin it its a factory option so im pretty sure they arent allowed to charge you for it.

I did a lil searching and found this post with instructions. I'm going to print this out and bring it to a dealer.

This really only works if you have RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) so if you don't have that there's a very high chance you don't have VTSS. When I went in my dealer had no idea what I was talking about an insisted that there was no such thing however we made a deal that if it was there and the option could be turned on then it would be free of charge. However if it wasn't then I would pay the $30 labor cost since they didn't get anything accomplished.
Also, just as the instructions say in the thread, make sure they select PL for the Neon and not PT for the PT Cruise b/c your trunk will pop open if they don't do it right.
most likely its legal for them to charge you since the have to hook up to the computer. factory option doesn't mean it free... it just means that its available
in no way em i saying that you should pay... just saying that there just trying to make some money
