Hp and MPG increase possible??

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Hp and MPG increase possible??

Post by WickedWildHatchet » Sat Jan 13, 2007 7:23 pm

i seen this on a survey website. I was woundering if this is even possible and/or if you guys think that this is even possible. Right now i am running a totally stock 05 SXT and was thinking about doing this but it just don't seem practical to me.
its like the 4th reveiw down.

I just Bought a Neon SXT about 5 months ago. I'm loving it. Now the 152HP is great. I have the 5 spped model and the SRT package. Just not the turbo and intercooler. A buddy of mine told me that if I put Bosch platinium Plus 4 Spark plugs, KN air Filter and a Tornado air flow add-on that I won't believe the extra HP and fuel mileage. OMG was he right. I went from 27 MPG to 33Mpg highway. and boosted my hp From 152 to almost 200 (198 to be exact). Has any one else done this? I'm passing it along to everyone that will hear me.

im not wanting a ton of Hp.. but i would like to get more then what i have and still keep my MPG. This is saying that some guy put in a K&N air filter and some Tornado fuel saver thing. Then some high quality spark plugs and boosted his MPG from 27 to 35 and gained 46 HP just from that. I think its doubtful and from the way it looks its not a good idea. so now my question would be what can i do to better my MPG and HP.. or just better my HP and keep my MPG.

Between my mag intake, K&N in stock airbox, modded srt exhaust, and AF/X UDP, I've picked up at best about 2mpg on the highway, and about 1mpg under everyday driving. The more important thing is that during daily and more agressive driving I didn't loose any economy, and the car is more fun to drive.

i put a CAI and an MSD pack, and that only gave me 64.7WHP, the real power is in my bodykit, rims, air ride and lambo doors. now i'm pushing 437WHP...

oh yeah, the stickers on my door added another 10WHP each...

envy me. cuz i get 49MPG city and 56MPG highway

WickedWildHatchet - It's a lie or the person is really dumb. There is no way you can increase whp that much with those mods, it just can't be done. What you have quoted is for the most part... a pile of :crap:

Platinum plugs don't typically work well in our car, they just don't due to how the ignition system is setup. The Turbonator thing doesn't do one thing for performance or gas mileage, it's a scam in itself. A K&N Filter will help a little but it's not going to free up anywhere near that amount of power.

Bottom line again... that message is full of it ;-)

well... looks like i ain't going to be doing very much modding. i can't really afford the higher priced stuff, but i do like the K&N air filter systems. They just look sweet to me.

A K&N drop-in filter might give you 1-2hp and 1mpg.

Plat plugs are not going to do anything for you, just use OEM plugs or NGK V-power and change them every 15k or so. That will help more than putting in expensive plugs.

The dude writing that post must have been trolling, none of those mods will give more HP, the Turbonator has actually been proven to DECREASE HP, it just blocks airflow.

Great post "I have the SRT, just not the intercooler or the turbo". Or the suspension, or the real body kit, or the rims, or the tires, or the brakes, or the seats...

The tornado does work in certain applications, but not in the neon. I tried it on my 85 monte ss and i gained a couple MPG. With those results i tried it on the neon and nothing.

Actually with HP comes economy. When you start digging into an engine and putting lighter rods and pistons in there you gain economy because the engine doesnt have to work as hard to move the internal parts. If you drive the same as before the changes you will more than likely see better MPG. My buddy runs low 14s in a sohc first gen coupe and gets 43+ MPG. (i know first gens get better fuel economy in the first place, but he increased power and still gets great fuel economy. i believe he said he ran 15.4ish stock)
