damaged intake. replace?

Post by welchspro » Mon Jan 15, 2007 5:23 am

I've got a pretty banged up AEM CAI in my car right now. It was damaged in a car wreck awhile ago. Its seemed to work ok since then? i've popped a few of the dents out, but some of the creases were just too deep. also, the rubber o-ring that held the sensor snapped, as well as the four teeth on the sensor that held it in place. so, i've enlisted duct tape...alot of duct tape....to fill in the position of providing the seel and holding the sensor in place. What do you all think? does a damaged tube...just dents mostly...affect performance? is it possible to find a replacement o-ring?

In what way should i approach this problem?

If your talkin about the grommet that holds the Intake Air Temp sensor I picked up a replacement at Advance Auto parts they had a grommet assortment pack in the HELP section.

i would think the dents would create some kind of turbulence but i honestly dont know if it would cause any noticeable differences. If you had the money i'd say replace it but if not, I myself wouldnt really worry about it. I would also guess that by the time the air got into the intake mani that it would have smoothed out a lot, but i could be wrong.

People sell bent up AEM intakes online all the time and people buy them, so it's either they're dumb, lol, or it really doesnt make that much of a difference.

cool. I think we just had an advanced auto just open somewhere in town, i'll have to go check it out.

The turbulence was mostly what i was wondering about...if it would cause any problems...it seems to run ok and i haven't run into any issues yet.
