smoke on start up?

smoke on start up?

dont remember if i've asked this or not.. but here goes. now and then, on cold starts, my car will spit out a bit of blue grey smoke. it smells pretty rank also... is this a big issue? or not?

Yeh, its burning oil.....that can't be good. I would check it out. ;)

You probably have worn valve seals or guides. Also, make sure your PCV valve isn't clogged. Just monitor your oil level. If it's eating an insane amount of oil, you may want to get a top-end rebuild (if its not worn piston rings) ;)

it's usually about half aquart low when i change the oil. but i usually try to keep the level in check.

If it is the piston rings your oil will smell like gas. I'm guessing it is the valve guides or seals.

how hard will it be to change the seals/guides? also.. how much will this cost, and what else should i do while i'm in there...?
