How durable are the 2.0 HO Engines?

Post by danman132x » Fri Jan 19, 2007 10:51 pm

I don't know if there has been a thread like this already, but how much can our engines handle? (2.0 Magnum's) I'm talking about RPM wise, time at high RPM's, etc... I have the stock R/T PCM so I won't be seeing over 6750 anytime, but is it ok to shift at the limiter instead of redline? When I'm driving my car hard, I usually go all the way to 6750 before I shift. Also what about sustained RPM's like 5K plus when your doing a speed run? 120 + mph in 5th gear. A video and a few comments got me wondering http://youtube.com/watch?v=fpOkeKUf8vE
I've seen a post talking about our engines failing a 7200 rpm test.

Also I'm running synthetic oil since I bought the car at 37K so this should help with high rpm's. Pennzoil Platinum is in from the last two changes.

If anyone wants to put in some limits about the base 2.0 please do so also.

yes, but you gotta be good :) I do it, not all the time, but I do it.

usually our cars bust after 200-250 tq.. the bottom end fails. And the axles can snap with less tq. Peak HP numbers are probably about the same.

In your video you say something about a fluttering noise. Do you have any audio of it?

When you are in the engine bay with the camera it sounds like you have a loud rocker tic or an exhaust leak. mine dont sound that loud at all cant barely hear it when the hood is popped and engine is running. as far as the oil sythetic is a good route but IMO i wouldnt put penzoil in my lawnmower. i use valvoline or castrol. i work at a dealer im a tech and i witnessed penzoil life car die due to the sludge build up and we had reccords for every oil change and it was done on time everytime. it died at 33k. just my .02.
I know your fast, cause you were haulin ass when i passed you!!!

could have just been that particular car and not the oil though too... just my .02 cents... also I know some people on here swear by penzoil platnum, as well as some say mobil1 - I think the main reason is both, are cheap! Want to know what would be good oil? goto this site, http://bobistheoilguy.com/ and look around, you will find actual data and tests done on filters, oil, etc. Scientific stuff, not just one instance or pesonal opinions. :D
