intake backfire? maybe, possibly

Post by wickedneonrt » Tue Jan 23, 2007 1:38 am

Without getting into the list of add on's I basically got 01 r/t with hahn racecraft stage 2 turbo kit. While mashing the throttle in third or fourth there is sometimes a loud pop under the hood, a temporary loss of power, then bam i'm off and running again. SOunds just like the pop most people have in there exhausts when running rich ( not a good thing but its a start to using my muffler as a flame thrower) . Anyways anyone have or heard of a similar problem. I'm becoming clueless and there's noone to take my car too around here that doesnt just look at it and go "gollllllllleeeeeeeeeeee that thing gots a turbo, thats magic"

you could be running so rich you're fouling your plugs...My 00 did that to me and would backfire out the intake through the throttle body.

my suggestion would be to not hammer it til you get it fixed you dont know what it's going to do to the turbo...

i'm fine . tranny blew up dumped fluid on turbo and exhaust . it cooked til it got to the nitrous and then it immitated the eclipse in fast and furious without the four foot jump. all is good in the end as i have a daytona charger sitting at the dealer sat to pick up. Shit rolls uphill occasionally. thanks for concerns guys.

Well its been awhile but i thought i'd update :laughing3:
sorry i forgot i left this thread a bit out in the open :D

What had happened was i finally overpowered my rods. 50 shot of zex and 15 psi of hahn boost (plus every stinking bolt on imaginable at the time , pistons, rings, cam and all, just no rods) I had read around here a million times the stock rods were holding out on peoples cars til about 300 whp and i was in the 275 range (not dynoed, just gteched average) I knew time was coming for the rods but the budget hadnt allowed. Simply put
I threw a rod, which made swiss cheese of my block and dumped hot oil on my turbo. Of course i was out in the boonies between towns so all i could do was pull over and watch. The flames burned for over 23 min before fire trucks showed up, just in time for the flames to reach my freshly filled nitrous bottle and gas tank. IN a big puff of black smoke my baby was gone.
roll cage stayed in tact though
anyways, i did end up with a 06 daytona charger and i 've done a few things to it but i still miss my neon. That was my fourth neon and second built one. Very sad. Of course i had it paid off for nearly three months too. :tardbang:
