I have a few general questions related to the crankcase ventilation scheme on the 2.0l engine. I want to add a CAI and catch can to my Neon. I noticed there are two lines from the valve cover, looking in the parts manual one is listed for "pollution control" and the other for "make up air"...
1] Why does the crankcase need makeup air, doesn't that just introduce moisture into the engine? When I install my home made CAI should I tap this line into the tube before the TB?
2] I assume the catch can mod is just for the "pollution control" line (the one with the PCV) and should not at all affect the "make up air line"?
Am I on the right track here? Any comments are appreciated.

The line on the right side of the cover is where the fumes are sucked out through the intake system. PCV valve if working in good condiion then you will have no problems.
I havent peeked under the valve cover but for what I know the tube on the back side introduces fresh air to the bottom of your engine. from there fumes are sucked up back to the top via the tube on the right and then they are pushed to the intake side to be burned. Most often if a pcv fails open it pulls vacum and fumes through it while vacum is still high (lowRPMs) and while you make right turns. that is when you get oul sucked in there. no biggie. Replace the PCV every 2-3 oil changes you will be ok. IF ou really want a catch can you can add it on the line that comes from the right side of the block.
I Installed breather filter on the back of the cover and I keep checking if any oil gets in the intake anymore and since the replacement of the PCV valve I had no more issues with the car.
Good Luck on the install and enjoy that CAI kit. I kike mine.

i recommend you KEEP the stock line to the air intake, and use the little mini breather filter in the other(back)...GTS wrote:Check this out.

you will still get the oil in the intake, but you can save yourself the trouble of screwin w/ it to save the 3 drops of oil the "fix" saves...
just flush the line to intake and intake mani w/ solvent or I use IPA since i have cheap supply...
