the srt rear section when coupled with a nice glasspack muffler in the midpipe is about as cheap an exhaust as your gonna get. The rt exhaust is said to do the trick but its pretty quiet. Too quiet for my tastes.

I dunno, but something about the exhaust twists and turns of the srt4 doesn't seem too "free flowing" to me... thing looks like a pretzel  I presonally love the sound of the RT exhaust - OB just thinks it is quiet because he runs no muffler  Cut out your resonator, that will give it a nice growl - with rt exhaust, that is, and the rt exhaust is pretty free flowing.

Exact power gains with exhaust systems arent really known, but whoever told u that you'd lose power with an srt rear section probably doesnt know what theyre talking about. Getting rid of the stock muffler for something that flows better is going to net you a couple HP regardless of how its done. You might feel a loss in low end torque, but considering the fact that the srt exhaust is the same size in pipe diameter as the reg neon, it wont cause a loss in power.

Yeah theres a million nice 'fart cans' out there, but the good ones arent cheap.

ugh, fart can AND altezzas? C'mon... ;)

Seriously though, you want real gains with exhaust, go with a full catback exhaust system, go up ito 2.5" in size, get a lot better header with merge collector, delete the cat - then to take advantage of all that stuff, get a magnum intake, larger cam, maybe a little p&p - then after you spent a good 1000-1500 in parts and labor, shoot yourself in the foot and say "dammit, I could have started a turbo project!!"

Honestly, if you want a "little more power" than yeah, but a fart can and open up your exhaust, or do it right and spend some money.

The stock R/T exhaust is plenty free-flowing. Diablo0 has (had) one on his white car and he had dyno numbers damn close to a stock SRT when he dyno'd it not oo long ago.

**For those who don't know, he has an SRT swapped R/T**

The vibrant muffler is not too bad, that is if you don't mind the exhaust tips being a little large, and for some reason they never hand exactly strait. My roommate had a 1Gn with the vibrant muffler and it was a little crooked as well...must be a vibrant thing. The sound is nice though.

I have the OBX header and no cat, with a cheery bomb glass pack and the vibrant muffler - it sounds quite nice, and not very loud at cruising speeds (5th gear)

I have a custom setup into a hooker max flow muffler. i cut down the tail pie so the entire system is hidden under my rear bumper. it is quiet as hell at normal speeds and cruising, but roars(LOUD) when you gun it. keeps me outta trouble with the cops cause there is no shiny tailpipes or fart can for them to spot, and i can keep it quiet if they are around.

i think everyone in the neon world can agree that "a little power" doesn't really work here. You can do bolt ons, and make it fun to drive, but it still doesn't change horsepower gains to much.

I say go get a R/T muffler and a CAI. Makes it sound damn good I think.

if you use the srt rear section, you should use the srt middle pipe with the resonators in it also, or weld in a free flowing muffler in that section as stated above.....

I say srt rear section without a cat and a good glasspack would work pretty good, My friend brandon has a 99 R/T and his set up consists of Kirk header followed by a flowmaster 60 series muffler( I think) and srt rear section and no cat.
