a supermini forum on weight training

Post by heyitsstock » Tue Feb 06, 2007 12:04 am

ok i thought i made this a topic already but i think i dreamed it... which means i dream about 2gn.org...... weird

anyway i fiqured this would be a interesting topic just to see how many other neon owners are into fitness

i am just below a gym rat... i work at a gym and i am at a different gym to lift almost 5 times a week for about an hour or so...

i started lifting before i started driving but did not get serious until last year roughly

i started out at 150last fall, then went up to 160ish last feb then i got MONO and i dropped to 147!!! but now im standing at a solid 170 which makes me happy but due to the fact that im tall 6'2 and long i still look skinny but i have a hard time gaining wait because of my metabolism....its stupid fast...

i eat about 4500-5000 calories a day through 6 meals

and about 300-500 grams of protien a day...

my short term weight goal is 200lb and i wanna see how i carry that to deceide what i want to do from there

some how writting this reminds me alot of my dream which means i could have already made this topic and forgot about it ...... in that case if i did im sorry

I got a high metabolism too. It sucks, but yet is good, since you don't have to worry about what you eat. :) Good luck with your goal.

Actually you posted something just like this is another topic lol...

So yeah... I go to the gym about 5 days a week and run like almost everyday. Yup, fitness is pretty much my life lol. I love it! I'm 5'9" and 165lbs with pretty well below average body fat %age. I'm all about getting really strong and a good size/weight rather than just all mass and bulk... Recently I've been doing some grip training. It's going really well. I can already feel a big difference in my grip strength since I started which was about 2 weeks ago. It's fun working your grip but it's really harsh on your skin and palms until they toughen up. My goals are: reach 200lbs of lean mass, close the CoC #4 gripper and get certified, and be overall really strong and have great endurance. Not to mention a great body lol

I hope there are some 2gn'ers here that like to stay in shape too so we can keep this thread going! On other forums topics like this seem to die lol (lazy geekass bastards) Maybe we can post some progress and give each other advice 'n' stuff. That'd be kewl...

Hehe  Yeah grip training. Like crushing, pinching, and holding power. Exercises like closing hard grippers, pinching plates, farmer walks and gripper static holds are what I've been doing. I do a great amount of wrist exercises, hammer curls, and extensor exercises so I have a solid forearm like Popeye haha and also so I don't have any bad imbalances that can cause problems. But yeah, I've just started this not to long ago so no big changes in mass maybe a centimeter or two but very noticeable difference in strength. Grip plays a big role in life and most exercises so I feel it's very important (just like a strong core) to have a vice grip. It's actually really cool cuz I notice not many people pay close attention to they're forearms. So they're walking around with massive biceps and scrawny forearms that sway in the wind.... I don't wanna one of those people haha

I dont do anything - the most weight I life is my laptop so I can set it on my lap and be on here. :D

Actually, I use to work on a dock and repeatedly lifted 100-150 lbs for 10hrs a day 3 days a week, and I am hella strong, just no definition and a belly. I am 6'1" and now weighh 205 lbs. I use to work out in HS (like 15yrs ago!) and was lifting on a regular basis - could bench 225lbs max back then, and I was only 6'1" 160lbs... so I know how you feel heyitstock, skinny, cant gain weight, hella strong... but you know, with time you will fill out and gain that weight, and if you do not work out, it will all be in the middle  :D I am trying to loose weight and tone up now because I am over 30 and Dr's say it gets harder form here out!

For the past 10 years, I've been sitting on my ass, playing video games, and eating junk food. I never weight train, i have never been to a gym, and was in 8th grade track, but didn't actually push myself.

I weigh 125 pounds (hasn't changed in 5 years) am 5'9", and can do 31 pull ups, no problem. Last time i benched, (about a year ago) i topped out at about... 170? dunno. I'm lazy, and don't do shit.... but seem to have a body that wants muscle.

Yea, in the end, good luck with all of this! If I was motivated, I'd probably do the same thing.

I loved to work out til I had 3 eye surgeries and since haven't worked out for over a year. Really really sucks because thats a MAJOR part of being in the Army.

I'm 5'7" and currently about 210. I'm short and stocky as fuck. I decided to join the Army at a plump 248 in 2001. I got down to 191 when I got in back in 2002 and kept going all the way down to 172 where I got to AIT at the end of 2002. There I did some heavy lifting over about a 3 month period and jumped up to 185. That was early 2003. I did a lot of running and cardio before I deployed to Iraq the first time and got down to a very lean and mean 165. Once I deployed I took it easy as I didn't want to kill myself in the 130+ degree weather. Well..... I hurt myself anyway doing a bunch of stupid shit at work and jumped back up to 190 since I was working out. After I got back from deployment in middle 2005 I took to running. Stayed at a decent 190 then had my surgeries in early 2006. Haven't worked out a lick since and have put on a ton of fat.

Been dieting and drinking TONS of water these past few weeks as I slowly ween myself off of the sugar and fat I've been used to. I think this week or next is going to be a good time to start back to some lifting and runnin. I miss the ol lean and strong days.

I just take whey protein and a men's 1 a day multivitamin. Things like nitric oxide and creatine never have much of a noticeable effect on me and yes I did take them correctly. :?

I need to lose weight, so I'm currently working on that. I've stopped drinking soda and eating McD's and drinking their sweet tea. I'm trying to get more excercise in, but when I work from 7am-730pm it gets hard to do.

I wasn't paying attention to my weight, i thought I was 260-265. Got on the scale a few days ago and scared myself...281! For a guy thats only 6' tall thats bad.

It was actually NO-Xplode.... creatine w/nitric oxide. I bought the stuff cuz I heard good about it from other gym rats lol

Took it like it said on the label... 1-2 scoops 30min before your workout to figure what your tolerance is. I didn't notice much at all during the first week. 2nd I week increased my intake to 3 scoops of the stuff and not much different. I took it for 3 weeks cuz it said it might take about 3 weeks for it to build up in your body. After finishing the can in a month I noticed no big difference. I stayed of it for a week like it said on the label, then bought another can to give it another try. Same as the first month except 3 scoops every time. NADA... I finished the stuff in another month and never bought it again. Maybe my body is like... immune.... to the stuff or something. :? I concluded that the stuff wasn't worth the money in my case. Not saying it's a bad product but it just wasn't meant for me. :?

yea hey if you want go to a reliable supplement store by your and pick up pure creatine.... 2tablespoons before 2 after you lift...

creatine only stays in your system for about 2 hours alittle more a little less

but then again other people react differently.. like me and gaketic it did absolutly nothign for me however i know some people where it worked wonders...... so i duno

but in all honestly most people dont even need supplements.... protein doesnt count

most of the time all you need is a balenced diet

My biggest gains were on a non-lactose based creatine, a b12 supplement and LOTS of grapefruit juice. Grapefruit juice is natures metabolife. b12 is a di-uretic that will help you get rid of toxins. The thought behind this is if that you can rid your cells of the used energy you can get the cells to burn more as they are always looking to keep the fuel burning. Gotta be careful with this as b12 is also used by druggies to rid their systems of toxins..... Creatine is great for developing stamina. Does the same thing as a b12 almost. The thought is that if you add water to your cells they have a better vessel to transport waste on. Once the waste is removed the cell looks to produce more.... with more water in the cells you can get rid of more and more waste.

I should be coming back for some vacation in about 2 months so I wanna get in shape before then. Already developed a plan for lifting agian now just gotta execute.

There are LOTS of methods for lifting. My biggest gains were noticed when I did super sets. Do enough weight were you can do 6-10 reps of something. Once you hit muscle failure do 2 negatives with assistance. IMMEDIATELY after performing the exercise move onto the next exercise. Like... if you do bench go DIRECTLY to fly's within a minute. I would do only ONE set like this and do maybe 6 different groupings and I would do this every 4th day. I dropped from 195 to 180 in 2 months, went from 225 max to 295 max on bench and got HUGE. The only other thing I did was run every other day for 2-5 miles depending on the weather.

great break down on the method of madness for you :)

im progressing at a great rate with super sets and hard hard training to the point of only doing 4 reps on a fourth set

a big thing is form... its KEY sure i can curl 100lbs but on the 3rd one i have to throw it.... and thats not doing anything but putting strain on my back......

control control..... in order to lift it you must be able to control the drop... keep the muscles flexed on the way up and on the way down

;)

^Very very very true. You gotta have the 3 D's when you train: dedication, determination, and discipline. Not having one of those will hinder your training from getting max results.

Today in life... I just got back from the local gym...which is 10 minutes away...about hour ago. Did the most INTENSE lower body work out so far since December. Squats, dead lifts, leg extensions, curls, presses, and threw in some lunges. I could hardly walk to my car after the exercise lol. I feel good! Real good! Maybe cuz I know I did a superb job or maybe cuz I'm just doped up on natural endorphins right now... IDK, but it kicks ass! :D  I'm gonna be feeling the hurt tomarrow... woot!

I don't do UPs, Sit-Ups, Push-Ups, Pull-Ups, Get-Up...... I do downs like Sit-Down, Lay-Down, Give me a burger and I'll woof it down, play some music and I'll boogie down. Gravity is a law and I obey the law :P

But really, we have a fitness room in the apartment complex that I use every so often, past that though I just try to watch what I eat. I should work out more since I want to build some more upper body strength and I'll have weeks where I'll workout everyday then lose interest and forget about it :-?

Ditto. When I was in high school, playing vball/basketball, I weighed 135. Mostly muscle, honestly. I was extremely active. Now I go to college and sit on my butt at my job and last time I checked I was 145. I'm 5' 9" btw so it's not bad.

Ha I forgot to list the calves... Add toe raises to my list.

05neonsxt: Go to bodybuilding.com and read up on some articles or check out some exercise forums. There's a lot of great info out there. Just RESEARCH A LOT.... weight training is a lot like installing a turbo in your car (which I have never done, btw)... you gotta research like crazy to make sure you do things right and get the best out of your hard work. Your schedule is okay... but it can be better. Like don't do chest one day and then tri's the next because when you work out your chest you also work out your tri's. Same with back, you're working out your bi's too so do them the same day. Ab and lower body every other day and get at least one whole day of rest before working the same muscle group/s again. It's good to plan a schedule and keep a log of what you're doing and what you should do. That way you can see what works and what doesn't. Everyone's body is different but a lot of the guidelines are the same.

One last thing... switch up your schedule every two weeks or so so your body doesn't plateau and adapt to the same routine!

It takes a couple of days for your muscles to fully recover from a hard hard workout. I'm a little older than most of you (at least I think) and that has a lot to do with my endurance and strength. Before I had my surgeries, if I wasn't doing super sets every 4th or 5th day I'd be doing light descending sets in between to keep the pump going.

I went to the gym last night just to see where I'm at before I get hardcore into it. Looked to do about 80-90% of what I thought my body could handle. Put up 220 on bench, cleaned 150 and squated 300. I'm suprised I still have that much left in me after over a year of no lifting or exercise at all.

You guys with the high metabolisms and zero weight gain all stink. I am 6'1 and 1/2" tall. In 1984, I weighed 164. I currently weigh 235. I used to be able to eat anything without gaining weight and the only exercise I got was from walking or riding my bike (I didn't have a driver's license for a few years in my early 20's and went without a car from 1979 to 1984). I've decided to make getting back into shape my goal for this year so I got a Bowflex this week and plan to start a diet next week (I've been using up all of the food in the house that I won't be able to eat while on the diet). I have never had to diet or exercise in my life so this is going to be a real challenge for me. I can really use everyone's support right now so please, no jokes, okay? Thanks.

That way you can see what work and what doesn't. Everyone's body is different but a lot of the guidelines are the same.

One last thing... switch up your schedule every two weeks or so so your body doesn't plateau and adapt to the same routine!
