Sup guys, long time no talk! Question on a clutch

Post by weber » Thu Feb 08, 2007 3:55 pm

so bordering 200-220 whp, is the Mopar Performance clutch going to hold long? My stock one is slipping bad after only 6000 miles on the turbo setup.

PS. So where's all the veterans these days? not seeing so many of the original posters? damn i've been away for too long

yeah, its been a long time buddy! i would step the clutch one level just to be safe. i'll be useing the spec stage 3f clutch and thats rated for 500hp and i'm not sure how long thats gonna last! so go with the stage 2. there is also a guy on the other .org selling a conversion kit for the srt clutchs. thats just another option for you.

i've never had any problems with spec nor have any of my friends. 9 times out of 10 if you have a problem with your clutch, you installed it wrong or didnt break it in right.

clutches wind up being completely hit or miss most of the time, there's too many factors that could play into it to say that this clutch was bad because of this yadda yadda, oil, dirt, installation, power, even if one guy's using the same clutch as another, one guy may have problems while the other doesnt....just one of those things...

but it never hurts to spend a little bit more money on the better stuff than to be replacing it sooner than you'd think down the line...i'm startin to feel that way about the new centerforce i just put in my turbo car.....slips in 1st gear under boost a little bit and it's only got 500 miles on it.

spec stage 3. feels softer then stock.

honestly tho, my stock clutch ONLY slipped after i got 12 1/4 passes in 3 1/2 hours. and after that night, it never slipped again. it was just to hot. i have however gotten the spec to slip a few times doing random things. never racing tho. just 2nd gear burn outs and shit like that. get a good clutch from the get go. because its a bitch to replace OVER AND OVER like alot of srt owners i know, do...

My CM stage 3 only lasted a few months at 10spi stock srt turbo. It statred slipping real bad. I now have had the CM stage 4 4 puck for over 6 months with no issues, boosting up to 20 psi, putting down somewhere around 280-300 whp, tq about the same.

nope, definitely an engine from what looks to be a supra.. whatever it is, its got one massive turbo instead of two, and its rwd, and prolly a hell of a lot of fun to drive.
