New Wheels and 225/45R16's **pix**

Post by 04R/T » Sat Feb 10, 2007 1:11 am

I started a thread asking about clearance between the rear tension rods and this size tire on a 40mm offset rim. I found out here that they would fit ok, but I was worried since the wheels I got looked close. I needn't have been concerned, they fit just fine. I said I'd post some pix... here they are.

About 1/2" clearance.

What they look like.

And one more.

Oh yeah, I'm saving money for coilovers so I can drop it a little. :)

Yes they are.

One thing that was unexpected is the ride, it's smooth and quiet with these tires. Would have never guessed by looking at the tread design.

The tension rods fit. Here's a link

Don't know about that size tire. The only ones that come in that size are race slicks and you need at least a 7.5 inch rim, preferably 8 inch rim to use them.

Looking at the pic of the side of the car. When you lower it, you'll have to be very careful or have really stiff springs as otherwise the tires will rebound up into the edge of your fenders when you hti a good size bump...

They look like they might clear by a millimeter or 2 but it's gonna be close. The wheel offset and tire size is stock for the ACR, so I'm crossing my fingers that they will clear. Maybe I'll go load up the trunk with some heavy stuff, get some of my fat friends to sit in the back seat and see what happens, any problems and I kick them out.

Sounds good d00d!

They looks awesome on your car, super fat tires!

Any pics from straight on behind your car and a little low to the ground? Just to see how fat they are compared to stock for most?

Right now I only have this one, I'll take another from further back and a little higher as soon as I get a chance.

I posted this elsewhere here is a picture of what my SRT-4 knuckle looks like. Notice the offset for the strut rod to enable more tire clearance. It might help with tight tire clearances.

I havn't really pushed them yet in the turns, but so far they seem like they have more traction. They're a little wider than what I last had on, so I assume they grip better. As far as drag strip drop the clutch type of traction, I don't know I've never tried with this car.

Looks good dude, keep an eye on the tension strut though, you have 1/2 but take into account that when you head around a corner hard the tire deflects so it could come close to running the tension strut still during those hard corners.

Yeah, I'm watching for that. They've been on now for about 1200 miles and no rubbing on the strut. I'll take the car up a twisty mountain road shortly and give the tires a work out, I don't think they'll rub but if they do I'll post an update.
