high ouput vs. regular 2.0

Post by underway » Sat Feb 10, 2007 9:01 am

wats the differences exactly between the high output 2.0 and the regular 2.0? i saw kc200acr i think his name was ran a 10.1 in the 1/8 mile at 69mph i believe. and i run a pathetic 10.8 at but somehow @ 73 mph his 60 ft was 2.3 and mine was 2.5....someone plz explain this to me cus i knowi need traction cus i spin like a mofo and i see that it costs me 2 tenths in the 60ft but i finnish faster so if i got traction thatd put me at a 10.6 assuming the same 60 foot and possibly add more mph aswell so why o why does he run so much faster in time?

the high output motor (magnum motor) has a different intake manifold, different head, different exhaust, different computer and there is a different trans coupled to it.

And I do not know how to drive either

The High Output, 2.0L Magnum Engine has a 9.8:1 Compression, freer-flowing head, larger exhaust ports, better designed exhaust header, dual intake manifold which has a secondary system which opens at certain points for more power, more agressive Cam, strong springs and valves and a more free-flowing exhaust system coupled with a great dual outlet muffler.

The Magnum (as it is called) Engine was put into the 01-02 ACR and 01-04 R/T's. You can usually buy the heads on here for about $300, and the exhaust header for roughly $100... the intake, I am not sure, maybe $200? But you get those, couple them with a more agressive Camshaft like the Comp 400 (which by the way was designed to work within the rev range, and with the internals), you get one hell of a mean motor to start with.

The reason I made my comment at the beginning was because I ran that after only 10 or so runs and really got down my tecnique, which still needs some work, as well as a few more modifications, like a solid tranny mount, to help take down my 60' times. :D

Someone on here was running 15.6 on a stock R/T, so I know with the mods I had at the time I ran, I should have gotten at least that, but I need some massive help! I hope with the new cam I put in last November, I will be in the 15.6 range, and with more work hopefully a tenth or two lower.

The sideskirts on the Magnum engine pistons are coated with a friction reducing material also.

ya thats where i was coming from was the fact that i run alot faster mph with a disgustingly slower time...c i know i have traction issues with the concrete in a 60 ft cus on ashpault(street) i beat my buddies focus and he runs 10.5's in the eigth his tires just happen to hook on concrete and mine dont...

So basically when your asking the difference between the two motors.. about 20 horsepower due to all of the differences mentioned above... the Biggest reason why the rt engine makes that much more power, is because it has a High flowing head that can take advantage of the extra air, it can draw in. A Magnum Head in stock form, Will outflow a regular 2.0 head, Race ported... So keep that one in mind if you plan on building up your motor for n/a.. might wanna start off with a magnum head..

the HO is sohc. the only dohc motor that came in second gen neons was the 2.4 srt motor.

look in the forsale section. i think someone is selling a mag head and some other stuff for $500. its really a good deal based on what others have said. bad01neon i think is the person.

just to put it out there. i ran 16.11 at 85.5 in stock form.

based on calculations i would say my 16.11 is about a 10.2 - 10.3 1/8 mile pass.

Wow. I'm so not impressed. In my 04 SE, I ran 16.2 @ 84 on extremely heavy 17s. That was like a 2.4 60'. With aired down stockers, I would have been knocking on the 15s with a completely stock motor. Of course, that's all changed with the turbo, but still...

wow, they must have been heavy as you were 1.5mph slower than me.

i will say this. you are one of the few stock 2nd gens (srt excluded) that i have seen quicker than me. do you have any/many options? i have the sxt options.

If your current cam is for a non-Magnum Neon SOHC, it will fit in a Magnum head also.

what about this.

would a reg sohc head fit a magnum sohc head?

reason i ask is i want to upgrade to a magnum head, but i love my borla header and i wanted to keep it.

sorry, but this question makes no sense.

based on what you wrote later. i think you are asking if a header for the non-magnum sohc head will work on a magnum sohc head, right?

The exhaust ports on the Magnum head are bigger than on a non-Magnum. A header designed for a non-Mag would restrict a Mag. Check the for sale boards here and on the .org for a stock Mag header. It'll fit, flow better, and it's supposedly made by Borla anyhow.

He speaks the truth.

The Magnum exhaust manifold/header was designed and built by Borla and ita tubular style design that not only flows better then stock, it is also physically lighter

but the bolt pattern is a match correct? just the exhaust holes are smaller then the magnums.

according to this info. if you put a non-mag exhaust on a mag head you will do nothing but kick yourself in the nuts.

back to the 1320 times...

so if a stock sxt can run 16.11 (racer) then theoretically one with a few mods and some weight reduction could easily break into the 15's with the standard sohc head/cam setup? and one with better tires (or slicks even) could probably start shredding into the mid-upper 15's? thats pretty damn fast considering the HP/TQ of the base 2.0. makes me proud of the ol neon. also makes me wish i could shift that well. Heck maybe i can its been over a year since I last tested me car at the track.

actually slicks dont help that much on a stock sxt.

its too much traction for the engine and it bogs. when i ran i did improve my 60' but i think most of the gain was that the tires were 4" shorter than stock height.

i dont remember what wheels they were, but they were OLD 20" x 6" mickey thompson's and the wheel size was 13". by old i mean they had some cracks in them kind of old and wouldnt hold air for more than a race day. a friend of mine let me borrow them.

anytime i go down the track i run with a quarter tank or less. and all the street trim stuff stays in the car, ie: jack, tire, etc. but i do up the back tires to 44psi, but they are regular street tires.

if you want to look at my incrementals go to the drag racing section and scroll down a bit. there is a thread titled stock sxt with slicks and ram air.

cool deal i remember you saying something about the slicks awhile back. Im just curious about how you pulled off such a fast time. so you were using smaller wheels when u pulled the 16.1 or did i misunderstand?
