Wiring for dash speakers

Are the dash speakers wired through the harness or do they separate off of the wires of the door speakers? I'd like to use the new HU im buying to power the dash+back speakers and I'm going to be using an amp on my components.

Wait - you are going to use the HU to power the little tweeters in the dash, and the back deck speakers? If so, I think you will run into an Ohm problem... The factory speakers are attached to the door speakers inline, so I think they run at 4ohm together but 8ohm separate...?

If that si the case, you might want to invest in some good 3.5" speakers for the dash. Then I would just run a wire across the top of the dash and down into the center console to the back and wire it directly to the HU... as for the rear, just wire from the harness.

So to answer your first question:

Ty for your reply. So i guess running the output from the amp directly to the wiring harness is out of the question. I guess ill go to wal-mart and buy some cheepo 3.5in speakers (prolly pioneer or lightning audio from what they usually carry; head unit only puts out 20w rms). I was figuring id have to run some wire to the components. I'm gonna mount the tweets on the black triangle side mirror covers. I'm not sure if I want to flush mount em though.

EDIT:
I just re-read your post and I guess it will be much easier to run wire from the 3.5's to the HU and run the output from the amp to the harness (i.e. dont connect the 3.5's to the harness so that i can wire the components using the stock wire, thus saving lots of time and $.)

I installed my new Infinity reference 3012cf speakers for my dash. It was a VERY tight fit. They are hooked up to the stock HU right now. They sound soooo much better than the stock ones. Im putting in my new HU, MB Quart components, and amp tomorrow.

how did you install the components with the stock hu? i was considering getting a component system, but didn't want to hassle with crossovers if possible.

The infinity's are my dash speakers (3.5"). Since then I installed my head unit and MB Quart components and unhooked my dash speakers until I get time to hook up my amp to the components. BTW installing the components were a PAIN IN THE ASS! I had to take the door panel off, take out the stock speaker assembly, take the speaker out of the assembly and drill holes for the midrange because there weren't any on the assembly (stock speakers have 3 tabs that stick out that screw into the assembly). I mounted the tweeters on the side mirror cover and ran the wiring down into the inside of the door where I mounted my crossover. I set the tweeter to -3db, screwed everything back in and called it a day. The difference is night and day (seriously). I can turn it all the way up on my headunit and not have hardly any distortion. My head unit only puts out 20w RMS so once I get the amp hooked up it is going to be crazy!

BTW THE STOCK DOOR SPEAKERS ARE 6.75"----- PERFECT FIT! Ive heard everything from 5.25 to 7" but from this install I can definately tell you that they are 6.75", you will have to drill holes.

you definatly do not want to hook component speakers to the deck..as they need much more power then it can give.. and will sound like crap.. i hid my crossovers in the little cubby where some neons have the CD-changer.. they fit perfectly..however it is a lot more wiring to run components.. well worth it for the sound quality tho.

I hooked them up temporarily until I get a day off to install the amp for them. They DO sound awesome on the HU, but it only puts out 20w RMS. My amp puts out 170w RMS to each channel and my components can handle 125w RMS so I figure that is pretty evenly matched considering my amp is prolly only going to get 13.5 ish volts to it.

he may have been talking about me since i am sticking with the stock hu which is, what -35w rms
