So....how wide of a tire can you fit under a 2g?

Anything that has to do with wheels and tires goes here. Will a wheel fit? Ask it here. Will a tire fit your wheel? Ask it here.

So....how wide of a tire can you fit under a 2g?

Post by ChrisRT » Sat Feb 10, 2007 12:29 pm

I was told...many many times, frequently, espically by the people at tire rack that there was "no way", and "no way in hell" could I fit a 225-50-15 under a 2001 R/T. It would rub the spring perch.

Guess what. They were wrong.

I've got about an inch and a halfs worth of clearence, and even on some of the roughest roads around, I haven't had the tires hit the struts/spring perch yet.

The 225's add sooooooooooooo much grip. Its almost insane.

The only "mods" I have for the suspension are front and rear STB's, and the SRT4 FSB. Other than that, she's stock.

I'm soon going to be adding SRT4 springs to the mix, and it should really rock and roll then.

Now the search for more power is on!

If they dont hit the perch when you mounted them they never will. The strut base never gets smaller lol
Good info to know, someone had to try that size

tire size

Post by ACR MAN » Sat Feb 10, 2007 10:45 pm

The tire size comparison software that I use says that a 225/50R15 is only .5% taller than the 185/60R15 tire that was original equipment on many 2nd gen neons. It would be hard to imagine it not fitting, unless the 225 was too wide...which it's not!

How close is the tire to the strut tube? Are you running negative camber? What are the width and offset of the crab wheels?

I remember you tellin me that. I'm still mad at the redneck who sold me mine. Telling me they were 6.5" wide when they were the 6" version.

Had 8" wides and they didnt fit on stock suspension, moved to 7.5" and had to use coilovers and remove the spring perch all together to get them to fit with a decent tire on em.

Its got plenty of distance from the strut tube, it comes close to the perch, but doesn't touch. No negative camber that would really affect anything.

I'm not sure of the offset, but, the Crabs' i'm running are 15x6.5"

To the others:

Width of wheel != width of tire. :P I say this because I'm running an 11" wide tire on a 9" wide wheel. My Dakota uses a 17x9, and I'm running a 275 series tire on it. 275-40-17 to be exact.

And Jerry, you already saw my car with crabs on it, ya dope!
